I'm sure I've got Toshiba stock in one of my mutual funds. One of my best friends owns it as a single stock, and has been in a right state for the last few months. He's much happier now, but still loathing what's going to happen over the next few months. Might be a good time to buy, tho!

Default If Toshiba Drops HD-DVD, does it actually mean the End?

What's keeping some other company from picking up where they left off? Onkyo was gonna release a player no? How do we know that they won't do it? And With Major Studio support, this could keep going no?

Just thoughts.

they suspended it at this time. I highly doubt anyone is foolish enough to manufacture a product that retailers are not going to sell.

Who says Retailers won't sell it? They could take some of the smaller retailers, and still survive

Toshiba will get in cahoots with CH-DVD and flood the market with cheap players. Oh wait...

it is over.....just saw the headline again. On the home page of Road Runner in the main stories, "Toshiba says it may end HD DVD". This is finally over !!!!
Nobody will pick up this failing format

I don't. I think that Toshy will do the smart thing and support Blu. To even think of trying to forward another format will end in backlash from retailers, consumers, the film industry, and other manufacturers.

It's never over, you just move on to a new opponent. In this case DVD. 10 years or so from now, it'll be downloads...or maybe 4k res...

Depends on what you mean by "end".

The format war will be shifted to another arena: Blu-ray vs. standard DVD

Or Microsoft can continue to throw money at it. Don't get me wrong, I don't like HD-DVD, and I hate microsoft, but this whole Countdown to Doomsday may be a bit flawed, I don't think that if somebody picked it up, it could beat blu-ray, just prolong the war
