When I play a Blu-ray disc, the PS3 will typically default to Dolby Digital, and not the PCM or TrueHD sound track (if available)
Unless I've missed something, there's no way on the PS3 to have playback defaulting automatically to HD audio. It seems to me to be quite unwieldy to have to go into the setup menu and change the audio to PCM/TrueHD when the film has already started (and many films auto-start) Do any standalone players offer this functionality ? I guess things are pretty good if this is the only thing I can find to whinge about :-) (well, and no DTS MA support of course). Thanks Liz |

That's the only reason why I went with the PS3 remote. The "Audio" button lets you toggle through the tracks while the movie is playing...I am sure there is a button combination on the controller as well...you should not have to exit the movie and enter the setup menu each time.

If you don't have the remote, you can press triangle on the controller and an options menu will appear, audio options are in there. I believe that you can press one of the shoulder buttons to cycle through audio as well, can't remember.

There have been ideas for setting up preferences regarding audio in the insider's thread once. But nothing like this has been implemented (yet). HD audio cannot be made the default, because a lot of people cannot make use of it yet.

But isn't that the point of having the audio set up on the PS3? So the system knows what audio your system supports? Just like the video set up know what max resolution it can output...

Right now you're limited to speaker setup and if certain codecs are available at all (in your receiver). But HD Audio defaults are a little tricky since there are many variables (like different lossless tracks and different languages). Now that he's here, we're just waiting for him to become active on his own insiders thread ![]() |
