Default The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (2014) Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy

Quote:
Writer and director Ned Benson’s ambitious love story drama was created to be two different movies with each serving as a companion to the other, and when it was first shown at Tiff last year, it was in two parts as The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby: Him and The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby: Her.

As you might have realised, one took place from the point of view of James McAvoy’s character and the other from Jessica Chastian’s. However, a third version combining their stories – The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby: Them – will be the one which is released in cinemas later this year.

The first trailer for that has now been released, and it gives us a very good idea as to what we should expect from the movie; it’s clear to see that McAvoy and Chastain share a lot of chemistry!

I saw it last year at TIFF, and I know some will give it a free pass just for the directors ambitiousness but splitting them into two 90 minute films didn't work for me. I am looking forward to seeing the combined one film version and think there's definitely a great film in there with that approach. I posted in the TIFF thread last year how it was one of the worst screenings I've been to and I've never seen that many people walk out during a world premiere screening before. I felt bad for the actors and director, as Jessica Chastain later remarked during the Q&A how important this film was for her.

The 'Her' version was definitely the better of the 2 split films and Chastain was more Oscar worthy than she was in Zero Dark Thirty.

I'm definitely interested after seeing the trailer. Well, that and also the very strong cast the movie has.

I'm glad this was combined into one story. While I obviously haven't seen this yet, it would have been a shame to get what seems to be an inferior three hour/two story version.

This looks excellent. Then again, Im huge Chastain fanboy. Realy looking forward to it.

Wonder if there'll be a SE of the blu including the 2-part version as well?

Looks like it could be really interesting, or really obnoxious. Based on the trailer, I'm kinda leaning more towards the latter.

Looks interesting enough. McAvoy + Chastain? Count me in.

^^ uhhh? It's definitely not a thriller

I saw the two parts at Sydney Film Festival and absolutely loved it. I'd recommend avoiding the Them cut and waiting for the release of the two separate films.

I really hope they release a blu-ray set with all three cuts, I'm desperate to watch again.

Just saw Them. Great film. Need to see Him and Her now. I feel like seeing those two films and the different perspectives will make Eleanor Rigby even better for me.

It's Weinstein...

But Criterion definitely needs to release this with all three versions.

Somebody needs to. I want to see all 3 of them. My art house gets this on the 19th, much sooner than I was expecting. What a nice suprise.

So this randomly showed up on my theatre's showtimes tonight for the next week. I see on BoxOfficeMojo it's in less than 100 theatres and losing a lot more this weekend. I just think it's strange because we never, ever get these small indie releases unless they expand to over 1,000 theatres. Not really interested in it though, wish we got Skeleton Twins instead.

One of the art house theaters in the city randomly got this last minute for this weekend and upcoming week. I'd like to go see it.
