Hong Kong Shops in Hong Kong that have Blu-rays

Ill be in HK in a few weeks and was wondering where is the best shop(s) to pick up some asian blu-rays.

Perhaps even smaller ones where i can trade some Dark Knight steelbooks.

I think Blockbuster is still in HK. Try them

There's also HMV but I know they will be expensive like all big box stores are lol.

I'm going to HK on Friday and I got a list of BDs to pickup, especially Chinese movies but I don't know which stores sells legit BDs and for less markup.

Default Shops in Hong Kong that has Blu-rays

Check out this shop Hong Kong Records in Pacific Plaza in Pacific Place. They , by far, offer the best deals on blu rays particularly Honk Kong movies . And if you are not able to locate this shop there are numerous HMV shops all over Hong Kong. Of course HMV prices would be a little higher.

Isnt Pacific Plaza one of the more expensive malls in HK? I remember when i was there 3-4 years ago, the parking lot was practically a exotic car lot with lambos, ferraris, etc all over the place.

hi...i live in hong kong and if you wanna to get blu-ray titles with large selection and cheap, you must visit a few shops in monkwok area, these shops are not big franchise but with all titles you want.

the blu-rays in hong kong are released 1-2 weeks prior to the states, the shop that i often go to is call "Laser Collection", if you need direction or further questions, feel free to contact me via email partydorm@gmail.com good luck!

why did you just call it Blu-ray dvds? You spelt out Blu-ray and everything right with no e and no capitol r but then ruin it with dvd. I know I'm anal about these things

Blu-rays in HK isn't much cheaper than buying through an online store from my experience. Older catalogue release run anywhere from HK$160- $210 while new release cost HK$225-$265. I got Red Cliff for about HK$260 which is roughly $34 US when it was just released.

i went to hong kong 2 weeks ago and the things i've learned were:

1) Stores in the major fancy malls (ie. Pacific Place) usually have COLD deals. The cheapest I've seen for Chinese BDs were $238. That price looks good in comparison to Yesasia prices but don't stop there!

2)Hollywood BDs tend to have higher markup than Chinese BDs. The cheapeast I saw for Dark Knight was $270 and the highest was $300 @ HMV.

3)Check out the smaller shops in Mongkok. I don't remember all the store names where I got my BDs but I went to 3 stores. One of them had an entrance that had two glass cases, one on each side and they contained movie dvds/bds on display. It was on a street where they sold ladies purses and accessories. The service was piss poor but at least the prices were good. I bought the Chinese Odyssey set for $240 HKD. That was the cheapest I've seen for this set. The highest I saw was $350, which was at a shop at Taikoo. Again, don't go to those fancy malls. lol

Anyways, here were the BDs (w/ prices in HKD) I got in HK:

Red Cliff - $210
SPL - $160
Chinese Odyssey I + II - $240
Flash Point - $238 (I had a hard time finding a better price. Hopefully someone finds a better deal)
Mad Detective - $190
Warlords - $200

LOL

Whens the last time you went to Mong Kok? I dont see it being dangerous at all unless you go there to look for trouble or provoke the people there.

Its always busy there and the triads dont go bothering people.

Anyhow, here's two locations that I found.

Laser Collection
LG 15, 6E Nelson Street Tak Fat Shopping Arcade Mong Kok
(this shop sells alot of Blu-rays and prices are quite competitive. You can find pretty much any title both asian and imports here) ~ thanks partydorm

Sino Centre
582-592 Nathan Road, Mong Kok
(this shopping arcade sells DVDs, music Cds, games, toys etc) ALl shops are small and the shops have a small handful of blu-rays. Prices I find here are cheaper than anywhere else in Hong Kong, but selection varies as well as stock. You would have to walk from store to store to find the title you want)

I get most of my stuff in Rock Gallery in Wan Chai (TEL:25729630,28937791) and I do have special discount from them.. They are mostly cheaper than HMV or Hong Kong records and do have imports from Europe and Japan as well. The staff are very friendly (it is walking distance from Wan Chai MTR station but forgot the building name).

Just for reference, these are the release discs from last week (I got weekly newsletter from them):

Antwone Fisher (2002)
Mona Lisa Smile (UK VERSION)
Beyonce:Beyonce Experience Live
Nomad (2005) (FRENCH VERSION)
California Redwoods
Pacific Coast
Dead & Buried (1981)
Pink Panther (1963)
Domino (2005)
Poison Ivy:Secret Society (2008)
Drumline (2002)
Pretty Woman (1990)
Friday the 13th (1980)
Pride and Glory (2008)
Henry Poole Is Here (2008)
Rocker (2008)
Hulk Vs. (2009)
RocknRolla (2008)
In Bruges (2008) (FRENCH VERSION)
Sacred Canyons of the American Southwest
Max Payne (2008)
Somers Town (2008) (UK VERSION)
Miracle at St. Anna (2008)
What Women Want (UK VERSION)
Mirrors (2008)

Buying from HMV or HK Records is expensive. All their Blu-rays are overpriced compared to alot of shops. But i guess their overhead expenses is more.

Tak Fat is the best place to get blu ray disc. Right now, they have a promotion of buy 2 get 1 free, but I am not sure when this promotion ends. I got underworld evolution, spider-man 3 and casino royale for HKD$135 each. The spidy was $230 and other two were 175: ie (230+175)/3=$135

Sham Shui Po has alot of DVD shops with small selections of Blu-Rays... but they tend to be a bit cheaper than the chain stores (buy 2 get 1 deals).
