Default asian/hong kong movies on Blu

I noticed a few hong kong movies starting to trickle in on blu-ray. Like Initial-D and a few others that i don't care for ( no offence i'm sure some watchs those ).

And i was curious if more Hong Kong films will start to make the conversation to Blue.

some classic flicks i've been looking for or would love to see in Hi-Def
God of Gamblers ( the original )
Better Tomorrow
HardBoiled
Jet Li or Jack Chan hong kong flicks

to more recent movies like
Dragon Tiger Gate
Zu Mountain
ect...

anybody in the know about asian blu imports?

Initial D is a US release by Tai Seng.

Flash Point, Invisible Target & Infernal Affairs are the only titles I know of that is released in Hong Kong on BD. Well there is also a concert but I dont follow HK music.

some of those titles prob are in too poor of condition to benefit from HD treatment. i'd like to see more recent films like Hero and The Banquet on blu-ray tho with lossless audio.

I dunno

All movies are copies derived from a master reel. I sure there is a way to re-master them then convert to HD-Def.

There are title from Warners that have gotten the treatment ...granted not the best HD quality movies but they have done it... and they are much older title then the ones mentioned on this thread.

First the movies I want to see most are classic HK 85'-95' with few exceptions. That is the golden age of HK cinima. and while yes the masters are not great i think they could benifit from a release on BD the issue is if the distributor will invest in re-mastering the films. If you look at some of the older films release on bluray some of them look great I don't see why the same couldn't be done for these.

I for one would kill for:
A Better Tommorrow I & II (III sucked by the way)
Hard Boiled
The Killer
God of Gamblers I & II
jianghuqing
Full Throttle
A xiaolin love story

And I would love some good old jackie chan too
Police story I, II , and the 2005 edition
Yigehaoren
Armour of God
Armour of God II
Rumble in the bronx

And wouldn't mind some good old Jet Li either
Bodygaurd
fong sai yuk
fearless ( know not a classic but still)

as for the newer movies I'll take em as they come but HK cinema has been decimated and mainland cinema holds too much influence. Jiangyimo and company have all sold out to copy ang lee and the result is formula movies that get progressively worse..

sorry for the rant but i had to get it out.

Is there an updated list of foreign films on blu-ray? Not ones that are American films that will be released eventually on blu or ones that already have a US release (like Pan's Labyrinth) but ones that may be a while or never to come to blu in the US and are not listed on this site's main movie list.

Also, wouldnt it be nice to see Battle Royale on blu?

Dragon tiger gate will get its HD treatment........ but unfortunately it will only come out on HDDVD for the time being. I wanted to buy that on Blu ray but I guess I'll have to settle for the Hddvd's version.

I would like to see volcano high and arahan in blu as well. I don't think My sassy girl would benefit from blu though, but i'd still buy it Shiri would be good too.

I would like to see Azumi in blu as it is my favorite japanese flick. Whiteout would be good too.

Hong Kong masters for the cinema golden age are in absolute horrid shape. They have lots of dust, scratches, and jitter and have not been kept well. I wish they were preserved better and I don't think getting treatment is going to improve these titles on Blu-ray. However, I would like to be proven wrong because I enjoyed lots of these titles as well.

Well i suppose there was a reason i was holden on to my hd-dvd player.

I hope blu pulls some better asian titles soon, the one currently out are ok starters but i'll like to see more main stream hong kong titles come out.

I don't know if anybody seen this yet, but has anybody seen a HK movie called Future cops? It's based on the Street fighter game. It's a comedy and it's much better than that crappy Van dame's hollywood version. If you like stephen chow you will like Future cops.

Esprit D'Amour is Ringo Lam's directorial debut. Alan Tam has a nasty girlfriend and ends up falling in love with a beautiful ghost after he contacts her on a Chinese ouija board. Most of the film contains comedic antics. This usually puts me off but I still ended up enjoying it. The Hong Kong blu-ray has nice picture quality and subtitles. The only extras are a 6 minutes interview with producer Raymond Wong and a 3 + minute trailer. Neither extra is English friendly.
