Kate McKinnon Will Transform into Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout

Wherever Kate McKinnon is right now, she’s probably warming up her deepest, most authoritative voice—because in her newest project, she’ll be playing none other than fallen tech wunderkind Elizabeth Holmes. According to Deadline, Hulu’s The Dropout will find McKinnon at the center of a series depicting the Icarus-like rise and fall of Theranos and its would-be blood goddess—a project that, when considered next to some of the platform’s other recent programs, seems to prove that the streamer has cracked the formula for creating the kinds of watercooler TV programming that’s increasingly hard to cultivate.
The series, according to Deadline, will run for six to ten episodes, and is based on the ABC News/ABC Radio podcast of the same name. (ABC later converted the podcast into a two-hour documentary that aired on 20/20, as Deadline notes.) McKinnon will both star and executive-produce alongside ABC News’s Rebecca Jarvis, Taylor Dunn, and Victoria Thompson. Considering this news, it seems safe to assume that right about now, Adam McKay is wishing he’d been able to get the gears turning on his own Theranos-inspired project, Bad Blood, sooner. (That film project, which has Jennifer Lawrence attached to play Holmes, is apparently still in the works as well.)
McKinnon is the second S.N.L. player to join Hulu’s stable of performers after Aidy Bryant, who debuted her own series, Shrill, in March. That project, along with other hits like The Handmaid’s Tale—at least in its first season—and The Act, as well as the upcoming Veronica Mars and Catch-22, seem to indicate that Hulu is finding its groove in an ever-cluttered market. While it cannot outmatch Netflix in volume, Hulu is becoming increasingly shrewd at finding projects that draw on timely or culturally relevant I.P.
The Dropout is also a coup for Fox Searchlight’s TV division; it is, as Deadline notes, the outfit’s first series order. Fox first unveiled its new shingle a year ago, and has since announced projects with such names attached as Alex Garland, Darren Aronofsky, Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Rock, Keira Knightley, and Yorgos Lanthimos. With McKinnon now on that list as well, things are looking even better.
She was the youngest female billionaire of all time, she was everywhere in the media -- and I mean EVERYWHERE, her company promised to alter healthcare for everyone for all-time ... and then it all turns out to be a fraud?! I mean, come on. If that's not material ripe for delving into, then what is?
Just sorta sets a bad example. Like if you do all this bad stuff. They will make movies of you and what you did.
That’s been the history of movies though. This started an argument in the Ted Bundy section. Hitler has movies made about him. I think it depends on the angle they take. If they frame this as her being a Robin Hood type then it sets a bad Precedent. If they frame it as she was just out for herself and look at how she manipulated then that could be seen as a different thing. It’s all a matter of perspective. Should we only make movies of people who have done only good? I don’t know. I don’t have the answer.

If Kim Kardashian can convert herself into a "Brand" and by extension her family allowing her siblings to make highly lucrative careers and business including Kylie who's a "self made" billionaire, the message is clear. Sell yourself for anything to make a quick buck and become a celebrity.
Honestly, what stigma or consequence are we shown really in these sorta movies outside the very overt gang movies with murder etc. Financial movies don't carry anywhere near the same punishment and their wealths largely intact when they leave prison.
If Kim Kardashian can convert herself into a "Brand" and by extension her family allowing her siblings to make highly lucrative careers and business including Kylie who's a "self made" billionaire, the message is clear. Sell yourself for anything to make a quick buck and become a celebrity.
