I believe the OP is referring to Blu-Rays. My understanding in general is that the rental versions will be missing some of the extra features and will not include things like a digital copy, etc, that may come with the regular sale version. The specifics likely vary from title to title.

I think he's asking in general about differences in rental copies vs purchased and I used the vagueness of his post to poke a bit of fun by giving vague answers that could relate to any BD

Well there was a story going around a few weeks ago about studios using bare-bones editions of movies for rental stores.

I was sorting my Blu-ray collection and noticed I had 3 copies of Man of Steel.
Originally I thought I had bought 3 copies of the same movie, but when I loaded the disc, I noticed they started up with different trailers, ..etc.. Additionally when I checked the disc on my PC I noticed that the 3 discs were all of different sizes... Is there anyway to determine what version/cut of the movie you have from either the size of the disc or something else? Thank you in advance!! |

In regard to identifying versions of the film, I'd recommend going the the "Man of Steel" forum thread and posting your question there alone with perhaps cover art of each edition you own as I'm sure folks would be able to help you figure out when each disc was created. As for the topic of the OP... Rental discs are something I personally find interesting and am a bit surprised that there isn't a collector market for. Many of them had lossy audio instead of lossless audio or had some other form of alternative artwork as well. Some lacked special features, and for others they were identical to the retail counterpart. The most special however offer alternative versions of the film in question... ![]() Was a Blockbuster Exclusive back in 2011 and was the only way to see the theatrical edition of the film in HD... (it may still be for all I know). |

Thanks for the quick reply TripleHBK!
I put the cases in storage as I kept the disc in a disc draw to save space... All 3 discs look identical... Back in the day when you put a CD into iTunes it would detect it and tell you what album you had inserted, etc... It even told you if you had the UK cut or an international cut, ..etc.. I was wonder if there was anything similar like that for Blu-ray discs? |
