Default Blu-ray of "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" ?

I am really hoping and praying that Warner Brothers releases the 1968 film "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" on Blu-ray.

Does anyone have any info on whether this might happen ??

If not, how do I make a "request" to Warner Brothers to get this wonderful film released on Blu-ray ??

Any help would be appreciated !!

Thanks !!
Barry

It wouldn't do you any good. They have schedules planned way in advance.

Then why the hell are we bothering to write "Wish List" posts on forums like this ???

What about an online petition ?? Or a request on Warner's Facebook page ???

There's gotta be something we can do, or these posts are complete bullshit !!

Posting something on a wishlist does not necessarily mean studios are going to read it and act on it. You could start a petition yourself or request it on Warner's FB page. It may get noticed or they may already be working on it for the future. They cannot work on everything at once and honestly I cannot tell you why certain titles get priority over others. It could be that the elements of this film are not in good enough shape to create an HD scan at the moment. Worse case scenario is they may feel there is too little interest by consumers for them to put in the effort. In any case, you need to chill out a bit.

Maybe also put in a request with Criterion since they are releasing Warner titles now.

Thanks Brad. I didn't start a petition yet, but I did send Warner a request on their Facebook page, and also on Twitter as well.

Yeah, I did this as well. I'd actually RATHER see a Criterion release then a Warner release...but then again, who wouldn't ???

Default Best Selling Warner Archive Title !!

"Heart is a Lonely Hunter" is now the #1 selling Warner Archive made-on demand DVD-R title (according to their site) !!...Hopefully, this will show them that there is indeed demand for it, and possibly will give them incentive to give it a Blu-ray release !!

I read THIALH years ago, and have a memory of seeing the film as well. IIRC, it starred Alan Arkin as a deaf/mute, and Sondra Locke was in the film also. Well-done film. I probably need to check it out again.

Some people think the book is better than the film, and others think the film stands just fine on its own...I'm in the latter group.

Yes, both Arkin and Locke were nominated for an Oscar for there performances in the film.

Definitely check the movie out again !!

I'm just waiting for a Blu-ray relaese of it by Warner or Criterion !!

IIRC, one of the many elements in THIALH that I found depressing was the sequence when an
[Show spoiler]man tried to keep another man's wife from falling over at a town fair/carnival. In response to his kind gesture, a group of men misinterpreted what he did, and beat him to death. The deceased man's father went to the local authorities to get justice, but to no avail.

You really need to watch the film again lol...No one gets beaten to death...It's more of a racial injustice that occurs.

It's funny you find that scene depressing, whereas most people would pick the finale as the most depressing part.

Default Rude Warner Customer Service

Just for the hell of it, I called Warner Home Video and asked them whether or not there was any news regarding a possible Blu-ray release of
"The Heart is a Lonely Hunter".

The woman whom answered looks it up and says, "No. There's no news about that. The only thing available is the Made-on-Demand DVD-R, and once something is on DVD-R it doesn't get a Blu-ray release"...I told her "Mame, what about "The Accidental Tourist"? That's on both DVD-R and it also has a Blu-ray release. Can you please look up that title so you can see what I mean ?"...At that point, she gets all rude, and says, "Sir, I don't have time for this nonsense. Do you have any other questions today ?"...I just said "Nope. I guess not", and hung up...What a byitch !!

I guess if you want info about upcoming Blu release announcements from Warner, you'll have to just wait till they post 'em on the middle of each month on Facebook or whatever ...At least I tried !!

Well, there's one less person available for a potential commentary track for a new release of THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER.

It isn’t just ”some people”. The book is considered one of the great American novels, the movie is a decent adaptation but it isn’t exactly considered a classic now. Carson McCullers‘ prose is what makes the book so great and that’s what you lose with any film based on her work.

I've never read the book Todd. I believe that film (or rather digital video lol) is the highest form of art...Not that I'm putting down "book-readers"...Everybody has their thing that moves them.

But I think the film is INDEED considered a classic by the majority of people who've actually seen it...But it simply was never seen by THAT many people, due to possible poor marketing on Warner's part, and the fact that many people find that type of subject matter boring and/or depressing...

Personally, I find stuff like "Star Wars" boring.
