Default Prices seem to be rising...

I went on amazon.com and I saw that all the BDs that were previously for 19.95 have gone up to 20.95. Planet earth has gone up from 66.95 to 68.95. Is it the end of all the glorious BOGOs and cheap stuff?? Some other BDs have gone up from 23.95 to 24.95. I pre ordered Jesse James for 23.95, but now it is going for 24.95.

Frys raised their prices as well. Movies that were 19.99 are now 22.99.

I think that the studios are cutting their losses after the Warner announcement. Earlier they gave us free stuff so that early adopters would encourage other people to buy.

Yup this whole Blu-Ray winning the war is a double edged sword for us. That's OK because the rate at which I was buying new BD's has decreased since WB went exclusive. BOGO's actually weren't doing me any favors because I ended up buying a lot of titles that I normally wouldn't buy. Unlike my DVD collection I plan to be a lot more selective as to which BD's I purchase. I did my part to help end the war so that's all that matters.

I was buying like crazy because of BOGOs and now I am stuck with titles I wouldn't watch even if some one paid me...

No competition means that prices fall naturally, and no one has to take a bath offering discounts and Bogo's. Prices will go back down when the economy of scale kicks in

Prices are usually lower during the holiday season. Don't prices go up ever year around this time given that it is the slow time of year?

Have you stopped to consider that you might be seeing the beginning of inflation due to your weaker dollar? Up to this point Americans have got off easy by not seeing a change in prices to reflect the real value of your currency.

I would still consider 22.99 to be cheap.

Consider this:
Say you were to take out your girlfriend to the movies and ticket prices were 10 bucks each and you wanted to get popcorn and drinks for the both of you with a combo for two priced at 13 bucks. You would have spent 33 bucks to go watch a movie in a noisy theatre even before considering candy when you could have spent the same amount to "own" a film that you could enjoy with your girl more than once.

I agree with Sir Terrence that prices will go to DVD levels once economies of scale kick in.

This does really suck especially since there are a bunch of Blu-Ray movies I want.

Guess I'll be spending next to nil on Blu-Ray until there is a BOGO.

That's a shame. I can only think of one Blu-ray and one HD DVD in my collection that I would not watch again.

You're contradicting yourself. If its the slow time of the year then prices should go down. Inflation is the product of growth not recession (which is what everybody says we're in although the numbers haven't shown).

Also prices rising from 19.99 to 22.99 would mean a 15% rise! Neither the dollar nor inflation indicators have changed that much in a year over year basis. Such inflation would be absolutely terrible

Because when DVD was the only format prices rose constantly...nice though.

I can't even stand 'Harry Potter'. I am picky when it comes to movies.

Let's put it this way. I have some CDs in my cart at Amazon.com that have changed price (gone up). Pricing for items change cross a number of different products and different categories. This is normal.

This has happened to most of the BDs I can think of.

Heh, kind of sucks that FUD is your only recourse now that HD DVD is going under, doesn't it.

I buy most of mine locally and so far the prices have been pretty much the same (or lower since they're often on sale). But, even if prices did rise a $1 or $2, I'd gladly pay that if it meant HD DVD was out of the picture.

Blu-ray still has to compete with DVD, and studios still have to compete with each other. Prices will be normal.

Well, hopefully they will drop again by the time I get my tax refund, otherwise it will just be fewer titles I will be getting.
