Hell yeah! Time to retire the old non-anamorphic DVD!!!
(If you realize that the movie is tongue-in-cheek ON PURPOSE, you will find that it is a very entertaining film!) |

This wasn't a bad movie at all. It had a good cast, a decent story and good FX. It should make a nice BD when they get around to it.

A friend and I loved the cast so much that we started an annual Treat Williams film festival that always includes this movie . . .

Deep Rising is certainly up there, along with Hair, though on the serious side I prefer Prince of the City. However, my all-time favorite guilty pleasure is his hilarious performance in the nearly-forgotten Richard Lester movie The Ritz. (Treat Williams talking in a high-pitched falsetto and Rita Moreno dropping F-bombs? Who could ask for anything more!)

I can't believe this site has a thread on this movie with only a handful of posts?!
Treat William's finest hour, even bettering his Oscar-shunned turn in The Phantom - ok that's harsh, but he's really good in this. This is a truly awesome B Movie that has clearly been overlooked. If some of the random dross that's currently on the format gets purchased then surely there's a place for this. Come on someone, pick up the rights to this, clean up the abomination of a DVD transfer and lets bring this to the masses. ![]() |

I would love Deep Rising on 1080p! A new transfer, of course. It's one of my favorite movies of 1998. I love it, I love it!
It is a Disney release, right? |

This is one of my all-time favorite films! I can’t stand when people list off Academy Award winners for their favorites. I admit to liking what I like! Unfortunately, Hollywood is ruled by executives who aren’t true movie lovers, therefore a film like this that didn’t make any bang at the box office and got bombed by critics doesn’t call for any Special Edition DVD or Blu-ray release. It would be a dream to have a Blu-ray edition of this with some supplemental material but in this new high-def age, it’ll be sad to come to terms that a lot of the slew of stuff released on DVD will never see the light of a true high-def transfer without demand! If anyone had brains at Buena Vista, they would re-release it as a special edition toting “From the director of The Mummy and G.I. Joe” to cash in now that Sommers has established himself!
