Season 2 was a banger. The finale was incredible. Screw the haters.

"It's not like the game". RIGHT! It's not supposed to be.

Hopefully a standard edition also. Seems like companies are Steel Book crazy with 4k for some reason.

I love collecting Steelbooks. I tend to buy those first since they are usually limited. I feel I can wait on purchasing regular case releases when they go on sale. Many other consumers must feel the same way, since that’s where all the physical sales seem to happen.

Nice to see they are releasing it on 4k. Hopefully a standard edition is on the way like they did with s1.

People have a hard time understanding that an adaptation is... well, an adaptation. You can't center a TV show around someone whose face you never see and has zero personality. It just doesn't work.

Imagine being an actor, and being told that you have gotten the main role in a series, but that you'll be wearing a suit of armor 100% of the time and that the audience will never see your face. Oh, and your voice will be electronically synthesized and may not even sound like you to the audience most of the time, if at all.

Yeah, now there's a role every actor would line up to take, eagerly hoping to get the part. NOT.

Thing is though, wouldn't that be a neat challenge to do? But it's something you should be aware that's what you're doing before even trying for a role. I really don't feel like the idea of being limited by a helmet is a "Bad thing" cause it should give you the opportunity to emote and express the character in different ways outside of your face. And I don't feel like the people making this show understood that, especially the guy playing Master Chief.

Also Master Chief has gotten better character moments in the games somewhat lately without taking off his helmet.

I've played every Halo game except 5, which never came to PC, and he's just a player cipher. He has no real personality whatsoever. He's one step above a silent player representative like Gordon Freeman.

I only wish the price will be what I paid for season 1! $34 USD!

Now that Halo season 2 has just ended, any guess when it will come out on 4K UHD BD?

And the one in the series is any better? He's a monotone robot - Pablo Schrieber pretty much has to play emotionless and stoic for the most part. They gave him an "out", but it's gone nowhere.

For all the talk of how it's somehow impossible to convey personality when in a helmet (and this is when a friggin' droid that looks like a ball can somehow convey a personality in Star Wars and they have an entire series that is way better than Halo where the lead is helmeted), Halo is at it's best when that helmet is on since it means that something is happening.

As it is, both seasons start and end with a bang with maybe another set piece sprinkled in. Otherwise, it's just killing time.

It's not like the show needs to stick to some video game lore - I couldn't tell you any intricacies of the "story" from the games anyway - but, I don't find any of the stuff going on outside of the action to be particularly compelling. It's generic sci-fi that feels like they are just trying to run out a clock to fulfill an episode order rather than having 7-8 hours of story to tell. There is not one character that I find interesting or likable.
[Show spoiler]It's taken us 16 episodes to even get to the thing the show is called.

Seeing Spartans vs Covenant is cool. I don't know if it's going to be worth sitting through the middle 6 hours again, though... if there's a third season.

If the series was just like the game, it would be boring AF. They could put anyone in the suit and it wouldn't matter. Sorry if the world building is boring but while S1 was ok, S2 really helped flesh out the story, and I'm 100% sure there'll be a S3.

If you do know the lore, you know it would be impossible to just throw the audience into the mix and show
[Show spoiler]The Flood
in episode 3 of S1 because it happened in like Chapter 8 in the game. And the reveal in the last episode was perfect.

Even the hint in E9 was great. "Oh that's their civilization expanding". OH, NO IT'S NOT!

I'm curious if this series was actually good if all the homers here would hate it? It's like we've had so many years of horrible films and shows with no respect for the audience, the lore, and no idea how to write thanks to the recent ideology of Disney and various other places like Amazon that we're seeing "so called" film enthusiasts eat up whatever. Seriously, some here are actually saying that its good that MC has his armor off all the time and that it isn't following the lore! Even if it deviated and it surely does, it's horribly done.

I slogged through s1 and tried with S2 but they really went down the bore fest and cheap way out this season.

This is exactly the kind of post that I'm talking about. It's not SUPPOSED to follow the lore exactly. MaSTr CheEf HaZ HIz ARmOOr OfF. So what? God forbid you actually humanize a character that's been in a suit for (checks calendar) *25 years*. God forbid you give a backstory to what happened.

I just find it that people thinking that MC having his armor off is the biggest problem with the show is insanely hilarious.

Honestly don't personally care about the armor that much, but your shitty snarky reply deserves a response. If you've played the games, read any books whatsoever... you'd know they've already done a damn good job at humanizing MC over time. He is supposed to come off cold and unwavering at first, he is a brainwashed, augmented, science experiment of a super soldier. We see that his interactions with an AI, of all things, slowly brings some of his humanity back, and even knowing what he does about his past, continues to fight because he understands that it has to be done and he is uniquely equipped to handle the challenge. Taking his armor off was never a necessity for humanizing MC, but it was the safer and easier route for the show writers.

A previous poster also said following the games would be boring... in what freakin world man? It's basically a less grim-dark version of Warhammer 40k. Cool ass space marines, genetically modified soldiers in ridiculous armor, alien races with cool backstories, planets getting glassed. A high-budget sci-fi military thriller like this would of been amazing (here's hoping Henry Cavill manages to get something cool off the ground).

That said, I don't hate season 1 (haven't seen 2 yet, i don't subscribe to the streaming service). They could have done WAY more with this show, but it is OK television. I think one of the biggest problems with this show is the constant character switching to some fairly unlikable people that feel superfluous to the plot. We really don't need multiple drama subplots when the main plot involves a potentially awesome universe ending narrative.
