20th Century Fox Bobs Burgers: The Movie (2022)

‘Bob’s Burgers’ Movie Ordered Up For 2020

Quote:
20th Century Fox said today that it is making a feature film based on the Fox animated series Bob’s Burgers and has set a July 17, 2020 release date. The series is coming off an Emmy win this year for Outstanding Animated Series and took the same honor in 2014.

The series first appeared on Fox in midseason 2011. Fox Animation will produce the film.

“We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen,” show creator Loren Bouchard said. “We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”

The series follows the lives, loves and misadventures of the Belcher family and their friends and rivals. Bob Belcher (voice of H. Jon Benjamin) runs a hamburger restaurant in a seaside town, with his ever-optimistic wife Linda (John Roberts) and their three children: self-conscious Tina (Dan Mintz), goofball Gene (Eugene Mirman) and precocious Louise (Kristen Schaal).

“A Bob’s Burgers film fits perfectly with our initiative to redouble our family and animation efforts,” said Twentieth Century Fox Film chairman and CEO Stacey Snider. “We’re grateful to [Fox Television Group chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden] for trusting us with this beloved property and we’re so excited to be working with Loren and his team.”

Nobody jump on me, but I don't get what's so good about Bob's Burgers. The show has that very anti-humour ramble and explain-the joke-till-it-works sort of thing that most hate.

I was never a big fan of the show. I mean, it's decent for throwing on TV as background noise, or when you're falling asleep, but it was never something I'd choose to sit down and watch with my full attention.

Also, being an animated movie, will that really take nearly 3 years to make?

Animated movies take years to make. Its not as easy as live action ones.

The Simpsons Movie took 3 1/2.

I think the major obstacle is the creators have to work out a plot big enough for a movie that won't just feel like 3 episodes crammed together and then figure out how to naturally get there within the current time structure of the TV series.

I mean, not the same scale as a movie, but South Park episodes are made like literally a few days before they air. They make them on a week-to-week basis. So if a 22 minute animated show can be created in such a short amount of time, I don't see the leap it takes to get to 3 years for a 90 minute film.

Because South Park's animation consists of manipulating a series of CGI objects, whereas a show like Bob's Burgers requires drawing new animation frames every 12-24 frames per second. And the animation for the film will be even more time-consuming, because the standards for feature animation are significantly higher than those for television animation. The film will probably have greater fluidity, more unique animation frames, and improved lighting over the show, and all that adds to the amount of time it takes to animate.

Jacob, my man, ... South Park? You can't compare the animation of South Park with animation like is the case in Bob's Burgers. Not in any way. There's a world of difference between the two of them.

Nice, Bob's Burgers is one of the better animated shows on tv. Great deadpan humor.

Way longer if you count development time.

Yeah but South Park animation is trash. IIRC something like a Simpsons or Family Guy episode takes nine months.

Bob's Burgers never catched on where I live. It's not airing (anymore), it's not available on DVD, it's not on Netflix, it's not on VOD, ... A shame. I liked what I saw, though. I'm (still) a big Simpsons fan and while it's never on the same level as those better episodes, Bob's Burgers is what comes close to that the most.

If it had been a Family Guy movie or a second Simpsons movie I would be there day one, but I've never been a fan of Bob's Burgers.

Actually know nothing about this show, other than the Archer parody from a few years back. Seeing that it won multiple Emmy awards, & that they're giving it the Simpsons treatment (big summer movie in a prime slot) has me intrigued. Will definitely check this out. (And since it's Fox, lemme guess: no Blu-ray season sets, right?)
