Judas and the Black Messiah 4K UHD (2021)

Warner will be releasing Judas and the Black Messiah (2021) on 4K UHD on February 11th! This will be a MOD-distributed release. It will include a Dolby Atmos track.

(Update: Despite it being advertised on the packaging, Atmos is not included. The release is apparently on hold as corrected discs are being made:

I never watched my Blu-ray of this. Since it's packed away, I'll probably just get this instead. However, I hope the film's Dolby Atmos audio is included, since the Blu-ray has only a 5.1 track.

Wow, this one couldn’t have come at a better time. Only a few hours before the announcement I realized that it totally slipped under my radar and placed the BD in my cart.

With Warner MOD’s great track record (encoding either by Duplitech or FiM by now), this should be another great 4K with all the bells and whistles and maybe once again with DV and a BD-100.

Nice! I almost grabbed a cheap copy on eBay last month because I was getting tired of waiting and was in the mood for a rewatch. I'll just tough it out for another couple of weeks.

A bit of bad news: the press release and packaging do indeed claim Atmos, but only DTS-HD 5.1 MA is included.

The 4K transfer is fantastic, though. My review should be up later today.

Is this another faulty disc like Promising Young Woman or another typical Warner misprint?

I suspect a faulty disc as the film is available in Atmos digitally and IMDB also states it under technical specs. The film is also listed on Dolby’s website but not sure if that automatically implies Atmos.

According to a reliable source, I've learned today that an Atmos track was 100% supposed to be on there but isn't due to oversight. Whether that means a delay, replacement problem, or neither will happen remains to be seen, but I'm hoping for the first one to minimize confusion. I'll hopefully know more in the next day or two, but for the time being my review is on hold.

That's good news! Probably an advantage that this is a MOD release.
