Exclamation If you have trouble sleeping you NEED this!

I've spent my money on a lot electronic toys over the years. However, not even the contentment of owning great electronic gadgets helped me sleep at night. No, not even blu-ray, my two HDTV / monitors or my new Panasonic DVD recorder / VHS combo.

The problem was I neglected my bed. For years now my box spring has been sagging, and the mattress with it. Plus the mattress was at least 10 - 15 years old and really shot.

Last week I get a new box spring and matress. Since my back no longer sagged in the matress sleep was better, but it hurt the first night as my back was realigning.

The next day my brother calls and says memory foam matress toppers were on sale at Costco. I told him to get me one with a pillow. I actually wanted one of these a long time.

I cut open the mattress packed foam expecting it to "foomp" and fluff up. Nope, it needs 24 hours to plump up. This IS memory foam after all. You probably want to hang it out to air as there is some oder and could take a few days to be tolerable. Oder is normal for new foam. Just be sure to carefully peel the folded foam open.

The first night I simply slept on the pillowy foam topper, and that made a difference. The next day the foam was 98% normal and I zipped it into the foam topper. It is a fitted sheet so it holds well. I then plopped onto my bed to try it out. I groaned from sheer delight for a few minutes. I lay there at least 10 minutes debating if it was worth getting dinner to feed my growling stomach. Stomach won.

In short, except for bathroom trips, I sleep the entire night. No more tossing, no turning, no waking up with back pain. I virtually wake up in the same position in which I fell asleep. I am waking up rested and not tired. Don't even wait for a sale, get one! Just look for mattress toppers with the memory foam. You'll thank me and sleep like a baby. I haven't slept this well and this consistantly in years.

Very true.

Last year I tweaked my lower back a bit and then realized my mattress was about 5 years old. It even was slumped in the middle a little bit.

It's very important to keep up with these sorts of things!

these things are amazing, but they are damn expensive (here in the UK anyway),

although you may be best going all out and getting the memory foam mattress,.. as i find the memory foam topper moves around alot ontop of the mattress.

maybe i shuffle around too much

After laying on a Tempur-Pedic, I will never look at anything else.

My wife and I were in an accident a few years back in which I was hospitalized. Part of our settlement with the at-fault driver's insurance company included a new bed, which our doctor wrote a prescription for. We got a king sized Sleep Number bed from Select Comfort.

Having tried memory foam mattresses, I didn't care for them as much as the Sleep Number bed. It's not "perfect", but it's better than most beds I've tried before. Plus, having a king size bed is fantastic--if you've never tried it, you gotta. I love the fact that I can adjust it depending on how I'm feeling. Like when I'm sick, I enjoy a firmer mattress, whereas when I've played too much hockey, I like it soft.

We do have memory foam pillows, tho, and those are heavenly. Probably saved me a fortune on chiropractor bills.

I thought about a sleep number bed. Even looked into it a few months ago, but they didn't make them in my bed size, I think. I bought this bed in a hurry because I just couldn't sleep well and was desperate. I wanted to sleep, I always went to bed tired, but I rarely stayed asleep.

I also thought about spending that small fortune on the foam bed, then the sleep number bed people said people didn't like that sinking feeling, or it made them feel hot. The topper is perfect for me because it's a few inches thick. I didn't feel like sinking into an 18" mattress.

The important thing about a regular bed is to flip the mattress every few months. In any case, I can't fall asleep at my normal hour any more because I'm too well rested.

When I moved into my new place I got a memory foam mattress, and I have never slept better. I used to wake up a few times a night, flip over, and fall back to sleep. It wasn't exactly a problem, just something I had experienced for most of my life (on a Temperpedic bed, nonetheless).

So the first night I slept on the foam mattress, something amazing happened - I never woke up! I slept the entire night without waking! The bed is simply amazing and I have never slept better. Even if I lay down on the bed, and I'm not necessarily tired, I will fall asleep because I'm just that relaxed.

It was the best investment I made in a long time (non electronic, of course).

Have the same matress topper, it is very good, but I'm having it slide around a bit. It seems to migrate to the end of the bed, and we need to take off the sheet, and slide it back into place.

Any ideas to keep this thing in place would be great.

Ya I'm looking into a new bed as well. The lady wants a giant king size bed. No doubt to stay away from me. However when we go looking, the top bed in our minds are always the Tempur-pedics. I don't own one so I can't attest to sleeping, but testing them out they are so comfy. Can't wait!

Yeah, the Sleep Number bed was expensive. Had we not negotiated that in our settlement, I prolly wouldn't have bought it (like $4k total).

I do like the idea of a memory foam topper. My mother-in-law bought the 18" mattress and said it was hard to get out of bed in the morning without rolling yourself out... like being in a coffin, she said.

Once the kids reach that non-bed-wetting age, I might get those toppers for their beds.

Do them the favor and do it. Not only will they be rested enough for school, this will help prevent back issues as they continue to grow. I had mild scoliosis in high school, and probably attributed to sleeping in sagging conditions much of my life. I don't wake with back pain any more. It's barely been 5 days. Even day one brought relief.

wow... you're quite my opposite. I sleep well on the floor with only duvet and pillow, not so well in normal bed.

Ever slept in a (not wet) bath tub full of pillows? TOTALLY COMFY. (Provided it's a big enough tub.)

Back in 1998 when hurricane Georges ripped through the Gulf, I was dating a girl on the coast and the bathroom was deemed the safest room in the house. So we camped out in the tub that night. Was a lot more comfortable than I thought it would be. But I still prefer a bed.

Huh. I guess I'm not the only person in the world who remembers lie/lay/lain. I thought I was. What a pleasant surprise.

hah.... a tub? never.

My worst experience, though, was sleeping on a bare soil. (Indonesia was a backward nation back then)

I agree, your bed makes all the difference. We had the same problem and never bought cheap setups. So, my wife and I decided to spend a little extra. We picked up one of these..

Nothing in the world compares. It's literally like sleeping on a cloud. Some days, I just don't want to get out!
