Default Trouble with Iron man and now Sleeping Beauty

Hi Folks, this is my first post here and I have a problem.

I have a Sony BDS300 and I have NEVER performed a firmware upgrade.
I believe mine is still version 2.0.

When I played Iron Man for the first time, it took a long time to load and I could not access the film by hitting the PLAY button. I would hit it, it would hi-light and nothing. I would have to go to "chapter menu", choose the opening and then, it would play with no problems at all.

Now, tonight... I put in Sleeping Beauty and saw all the previews (they looked fantastic ) but when I got to the menu screen and hit play... the screen went black and after about 5 min, the spinning wheel came on.... and then black and after 15 minutes, I gave up. I then tried the chapter access like I did with Iron Man, same thing...black screen and "nada."

I ordered the firmware disc from Sony after trying to make my own and the player saying that it couldn't read the disc.

Anyone experience this or have any advice?

Thanks,
Bob

Did you burn your own or get one from Sony?

I have only ever burned my own. Did you burn the ISO as an image?

I tried on my own. I put in a CD-R and it asked if I wanted to "burn Files to Disk, burn movie to cd/dvd with "power2go", create my own disk with Nero StartSmart, make data disc with nero express, etc...

I choose burn files to disc. Then I dragged the ISO file in and finalized.

Just click cancel there and open Nero and do this.

Funny thing is that I don't even have NERO. I am trying right now with Clone DVD. They have an ISO feature.

I'll be back shortly. Cross your fingers. lol

Right now it says DISC DWLD but I don't hear anything like the disc is being read or not. Is this standard?

Very standard, you should be good once it gets done. Let us know results.

Ok...so I just went down to check and the player is off and the tray is out.

Is this done> The Sony site said something about a message when upgrade is complete.

ESPECIALLY on an S300.

(Do they even have BD-Live?...I kept holding out for a PS3 because I heard the S300's didn't.)

OK... the firmware worked.

Sleeping Beauty loaded only after a minute or two.
Iron Man - the play button worked.

BUT - On my receiver... it does not go into 5.1 or Dolby (the little blue lite doesn't go on either). It says PCM 48 and only the L-C-R and the SW are highlighted. This is the same on both Sleeping B and Iron Man.

What happened???

PCM is better than dd5.1 anyway. Its probably defaulting to the best soundtrack on the disc.

You are probably only getting 2.0 PCM, I would assume. You are using optical or coax right? You need to go into setup and change the HDMI audio from PCM to auto.

Yeah, digital optical for sound.

What does the 48 mean in PCM-48?
