Default We need more releases if the format is going to survive

We all know HD-DVD is dead, but waht's going on with Blu-ray? I find the movie releases on Blu-ray quite disappointing. The announcement of Warner Bros. was weak to say the least, MGM hasn't done any effort to release there titles on Blu-Ray...
I need more content !!! After spending all that money on a player and HD TV, I can't get the movies I want.
If this situation doesn't change I expect Blu-Ray to die, just like SACD did...
Even laserdisc got better support than this !

GIve it time. Once all the studios are releasing content, HD DVD is completely out of the picture, and there are a few more players and HDTVs in people's homes, you'll see a surge in content.

Relax. DVD was the same way when the format was starting off. I, on the other hand, think the releases so far this year have been great. I've bought at least one blu ray a week.

as long as the new releases are available in blu-ray I don't think there is too much of a problem. Back catalogs are coming nicely so I have no complaints.

I bought the first generation top-of-the-line Sony DVD player (Sony DVP-S7000) in 1997 for $1,000. The only other company that made DVD players at that time was Toshiba. There were only about 15 to 20 DVD titles available and they were not anamorphic, but I did not care as I wanted the best home theater experience at that time. We have over 450 BD titles available. Be patient.

P.S. The DVD player still works and its picture quality is as good as some of the newer players.

with all the effort, as far as time and remastering that goes into HD, A slow and steady pace is happy with me. The only problem with mass releases is studios know that there is only so much money available from peoples budgest to purchase movies, therefore if they released 100 titles at a time, alot of the lower interest titles would suffer and people just wouldnt buy them

I am not rich. I have been addicted to to high-end electronics for many years. The good news is that my wife has also caught the bug.

January and February are traditionally not great months for releases. It's after Christmas and retailers and studios know that a lot of us are broke from holiday shopping. Also, if any titles are projected to be released on January or February, they are usually hurried to make the holiday season.

I wouldn't say that the announced future releases are lame, you might find them lame, but I don't, and I don't hold that against you. We are all entitled to our own tastes. You might not like the releases, but I find them just fine. I don't think it's the end of the world just because find the releases unbearable.

I know most of you are going to flame away after I say this but I agree 100% that there is not enough Blu-ray releases, so much so that I am getting an Toshiba A3 and some HD DVDs

HD DVD may be not be around for much longer but I can't resist some of those titles and I truly don't think they will be on Blu-ray for a long time.

A few reasons...

1. I want cheap as possible if I am going dual format
2. My buddy has an A2 that looks great (1080i)
3. I like the upscaling of the A2 and the A3 is supposed to be exact
4. I have a 1080p tv so I will let that deinterlace.

Unless I can get The Thing, Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, American Gangster, The Frighteners, Zodiac, Feast, Blades Of Glory, and Knocked Up on Blu-ray tommorow...I think I will be format neutral by the end of the week.

Hey, I just want the movies in High Definition.

This news isn't encouraging either:

People Happy With DVD, Not Likely To Switch to Hi-Def, Says Study

Relatively few consumers are planning to make the transition from DVDs to high-definition HD DVD or Blu-ray, according to a survey by NPD Group. The researchers said that among owners of HDTV sets, seven out of 10 say they see no need to purchase high-definition players, maintaining that they are satisfied with the quality of their current players. "one of the main challenges for the next-generation" format, NPD Group senior entertainment industry analyst Russ Crupnick told Bloomberg News, "is you have a product out there that is pretty darn good in consumers' eyes."
