Arrow Mighty Mouse

Quote:
Paramount, which has Iron Man 2 coming up in May, is eyeing a different kind of superhero movie: a reboot of the baby-boomer TV cartoon Mighty Mouse.

That's according to the Los Angeles Times' 24 Frames blog:

The project, based on the vintage cartoon about a crime-fighting super-mouse (which will surely get a modern spin) has been in development for several years at Paramount and its Nickelodeon Movies label.

A number of writers have taken stabs at a script over that time, including the Gunn brothers (Brian and Mark), who also count the "Journey to the Center of Earth" sequel among their credits.

But the studio has, over the last few months, been seeking both a new writer and a new director for "Mouse," with a number of up-and-comers on the list.

I hope they don't try and do real animals with voices like they did with Underdog.

I wonder if it will be all CG or a mix like Chipmunks and G-Force. I'm hoping for all CG because I'd rather have something that actually looks like Mighty Mouse and not an actual mouse in a costume.

So, apparently, they'll be rapping instead of singing operetta?

(Oh folks, be glad you're like the producers, and don't remember growing up wishing local stations would stop showing these, just because they didn't have anything else to show in the afternoons.... )

No....for the love of....why do they have to make every single childhood cartoon into a movie now?

First it was Flintstones...which was a fun flick

Then Rocky and Bulwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, Scooby-Doo, Garfield, Underdog, the Chipmunks.

Soon to be Smurfs, Yogi Bear, and Tom and Jerry.

I'm surprised The Jetsons hasn't come out yet!

Got it already.

Remember the cartoon and liked it, tried the kids with it, they did not like it.

Yeah, apparently Robert Rodriguez felt that "Shorts" was so much more of an artistic reach to be explored...

Just give us animation. I don't want to see a real mouse w/cape against a blue screen.

Oy - let me guess...Mighty Mouse will be initially thrilled by his powers, but then will be deeply conflicted by his personal life with (insert relationship issue here and relation name) and his responsibility to the public and his inability to connect with (insert relation name here). Eventually the public he wants to save turns on him. However, these conflicts will be resolved when a villain appears and Mighty Mouse saves (insert relation name here) and the public. Roll credits.

Let's just make a safe guess that Oilcan Harry won't be in it.

Mighty Mouse Live-Action/Animated Hybrid Film in the Works at Paramount

Quote:
Mighty Mouse is coming to save the day once again, but he's jumping off the page to do so in a new cinematic adaptation, as the pint-sized rodent superhero is set to star in his own feature film through Paramount.

Writing tandem of Jon and Erich Hoeber are signed on to write the screenplay for Paramount Animation. The film will be a mix of live-action and animation, produced by Karen Rosenfelt (the Twilight movies) and Robert Cort (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Save the Last Dance).

Mighty Mouse has been an icon in pop culture since the 1950s, appearing in cartoons, comics and commercials. Starting out as Super Fly and then later Super Mouse, he was a parody of Superman -- who was flying high on TV and in Max Fleischer shorts at the time -- created by Isadore '‘Izzy’' Klein. His instantly recognizable theme song became part of Andy Kaufman's stand-up routine in later years.

The Hoebers are known for Red and Red 2. Their most recent credit was The Meg, which made quite a splash last summer. Rosenfelt is responsible for 2006's Charlotte's Web and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, films with a similar bend to Mighty Mouse in terms of their animal characters and a mutual hybrid of animation and live actors.

Paramount Animation is enlisting some A-list talent in its long-running efforts to finally bring “Mighty Mouse” to the big screen.

The studio has tapped Maximum Effort Productions, Ryan Reynolds’ production company, to produce a feature adaptation of the popular cartoon as part of their first-look deal with the studio. In addition, Paramount Animation has also hired Matt Lieberman, who worked with Reynolds on the 2021 fantasy-adventure “Free Guy,” to pen the script.

Mighty Mouse has been around since 1942, with the pint-sized superhero making his debut in a short film entitled, “The Mouse of Tomorrow.” He’d go on to star in dozens of other shorts over the ensuing decades, as well as a Saturday morning cartoon, which was responsible for “Mighty Mouse Theme (Here I Come to Save the Day),” an earworm of an opener if ever there was one. Mighty Mouse would be reimagined and rebooted several times, but more recent efforts to bring the cuddly adventurer to screens, including one involving the team behind the “Red” franchise and “The Meg,” have faltered. Brad Butler, vice president of animated features, is overseeing the “Mighty Mouse” project for Paramount Animation.
