THE FUTURE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT 2.0

Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Michael Keaton (Birdman), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), and Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) star in the electrifying 2014 reimagining of the action/sci-fi classic, RoboCop.

In the year 2028, conglomerate OmniCorp uses robotic technology to transform critically injured police officer Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) into the ultimate crime fighter ... a perfect, lethal melding of man and machine. Back on the streets, Murphy is hardwired for law enforcement, but the mind and memories of the human inside him long to take control ... and the results could be catastrophic.

Featuring Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder), and Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire), RoboCop offers fans of the original film a terrifying new vision of an unforgettable future.

Limited edition slipcover with first pressing.

I'll actually buy this. If you pretend it's not called Robocop it's a pretty good little sci-fi movie about drone warfare. Gary Oldman and Keaton are great in it.

You know, I disliked this when I saw it in theaters, but when I re-watched it last year, I thought it was pretty decent. It's certainly not the original, but it's clever in its own way, despite plenty of flaws and missteps.

Scream Factory has fallen off so hard. Between poor QC, lazy 4K re-releases and terrible new titles (This, Carrie, NOES, etc). At least we have Arrow who pour their heart into their limited editions.

What is it with Shout releasing all these mediocre remakes on 4K? Is there actually a demand for some of these? Just seems kinda weird when out of all the boutiques, they probably have the most extensive catalogue of films yet they choose to put out stuff like this.

I literally JUST bought this at the thrift store for $2 over the weekend having never seen it, and not even thinking for a second it would get a 4K boutique release. I watched it that night and actually enjoyed it, and it helps if you don't look at it as a remake of the 1987 classic. The disc looked and sounded great, so this could turn out to be a killer 4K transfer. I may grab it on a decent sale, but now way I'm paying $40 for a movie like this.

Is this an April Fools thread?

Seriously, this movie is alright. It’s much better than the other PG-13 Verhoeven remake that came out around the same time (Total Recall). It at least attempts to keep the satirical undertones of the original.

I remember the director being unhappy so I had no expectations this was going to be good but you are right, the acting is good and the story is fine. Is it Robocop, no, but it is a decent enough to be satisfactory.

I wonder what would be different if the director got his way.

Mediocre remakes still come with big genre recognition attached e.g. RoboCop, Carrie. And as MGM were/are one of the more desperate studios w/ref to exploiting the IP in their catalogue they seem to have more of these crappy remakes than most.

Robo '14 is okay but if I'm watching a PG-13 Robo and paying a premium price for it on UHD then I want roboninjas and Jetpack Robo™️, not this pale 'reimagining' of the original. Release Robo 3 you cowards!
