Default Price of Blu-ray recorder and media? Your thoughts

What do you think of the price of blu-ray right now?
Hopefully we can keep track of the price of bluray media and writer.

As of right now, lowest price for the Sony BWU-100A Blu-Ray Disc Writer (is 700).

25GB Single Layer BDR disc avg price: 16.99
50GB Dual Layer BDR disc avg price: 35.00

If the price drop signifigantly over the next few month, be sure to post up the new price.

The Price is far to expensive for me based on value for money. However the price has been falling rapidly and will continue to do so. The price of DVD burners was a similar price, so in real terms was more expensive and you got a lot less bang for your buck. If you want to be an early adoptor expect to the pay the price. The price is more than just money, in a short space of time there will be a faster drive, most probably less error prone with more features. This trend will continue until Blu Ray burners are $60 going at 20 x speed (ok a little exageration) and we will be all bemoaning the fact that we can only fit 200GB on a disk and 10TB would be about the perfect size. I hate to tell it will happen, however no time soon. There was a post that 25GB Disk was down to $13 or there abouts. They will fall.

I am sure that in just not more than 3-4 months they will drop 1/2 the current price...

But wait... Are all disc manufacturers (the ones that have applied for BD tech) producing discs at the moment?
If not... Expect the price to fall rapidly during the holiday season.
Personally, I'd wait till after the holiday season.. A new set of players, new discs and prices (I bet).

fortunatelly for blu ray all the major manufacturers are producing the media and most are producing the drives. Pioneer and Samsung will release a 4x drive by the end of the year and media prices will continue to fall

Cool

Using new AVCHD technology, the HDR-UX1 captures spectacular, high-definition video in 1440 x 1080 pixels, more than four times the resolution of conventional DV recording. By capturing images at a higher efficiency than conventional formats, the AVCHD DVD Handycam records high-quality video directly onto 8cm DVD media

That's what i would buy either that or HDRSR1 for its harddrive which can fit 7 hours of HD
and the cost of blu-ray discs is ok

Default Its all cost vs. time

All things electronic fall in price with time. The issue is whether the value is compeling right now for the things you want to do right now.

AVCHD is an interesting concept, but barely a concept as yet. You can buy the camera and make the discs, buy I do not believe there is a single video editing solution for AVCHD right now. Even then, the data rate has been reduced under that codec such that HDV on tape will still supply a superior result. My conclusion: if you want to shoot and edit now HDV is your product. You can already put the edited product on Blu-Ray right now, its just that the beknighted Samsung player won't read the BDAV folder. I'll let you know in two weeks if the the Sony BDP-S1 is better [it had better be!]
