Why and When did the R rated, raunchy theatrical comedy die?

So this year was an exception in that we actually had a somewhat successful R rated comedy with No Hard Feelings (i guess Strays too, but than didnt even gross its budget)but it feels like this was a super popular genre a few years back. Nowadays we don't seem to get many of these at all and gone are the days when an R rated comedy could own the summer for example. I mean look at the money The Hangover movies made, seems unbelievable now.

What do people like Seth Rogen, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson do for money now ha ha.
