Dwight Yoakam you mean the country singer Dwight Yoakam I forgot he was even in this movie he’s one of my favorite music artists of all time. So excited this is finally coming to Blu-Ray in the US it’s about time it happens.

I had no idea this one never got a BR release. Is there a reason? It's not an obscure movie.

The bonus features are included on the Blu-ray. And yeah, I'd like to see a Blu-ray only release as well. If/when this perhaps happens I'll be purchasing a copy for a friend that lives in the 1080p world. They have zero interest in 4K so.

If you want Blu-ray only for your friend your only options are eBay or another marketplace that has the seller selling only the Blu-ray from the 4K steelbook. You could also check this fourm to see if any sellers here are selling the BD only. You really are better off just buying the 4K steelbook for your friend because if they ever get a UHD player even if they prefer 1080p they can still play either disc.

Here's a look at the Blu-ray menus for those interested. Well, this is a mock-up of the menus I created in Photoshop. Will give one a good feel for what it's like to navigate the original disc. My effort here mirrors the original menus very closely, a few liberties taken along the way such as the first couple pics shown below. I reduced the number of pages used when navigating the "Multi-Angle Featurette" as well in addition to improving the font placement, padding and spacing throughout. The original disc uses a font strip to populate all the text. Very odd letter spacing as a result. The font I used isn't the same, but it's close. And yes, there's a practical application to what I've done here, but it's forbeoden to speak of such things here on the forums, so let's not and say that we did. In any event, eye candy provided below. Accompanying each pic is a description which accurately describes the behavior of the original disc.
TOP MENU: ![]() (At the main level the "EXTRAS" menu items are always shown to the right, each menu item showing its "Normal" state, i.e. not selected. Selecting the "EXTRAS" option and navigating "RIGHT" does not wrap around to "PLAY" in this case. Instead you're taken to the "EXTRAS" page just as if you had selected and activated the "EXTRAS" option. In the mock-up pictured above I took a different approach, navigation wrapping around from "EXTRAS" to "PLAY" and vice versa, the right portion of the screen used to display an "Overview" of the film rather than the contents of the "EXTRAS" page.) PLAY\RESUME: ![]() (The "PLAY" option never displays a "Resume" prompt if applicable. Playback either resumes if possible or starts from the beginning. The only way to invoke the "Resume" prompt is to stop playback of the disc, then start playback again. When doing so the above "Resume Playback?" prompt is displayed after the disc loads if applicable, the options "Yes" (...resume where you left off.) and "No" (...start from beginning.) given. In the mock-up pictured above the same "Resume Playback?" prompt would be given if applicable without having to stop and restart playback of the disc. Navigating "DOWN" would provide for backing out if you change your mind.) SETUP\AUDIO: ![]() (The current audio stream for the film is called out by the small right arrow to the left of the given menu item. Navigating "UP" from the topmost item wraps around to the last available audio selection. Navigating "RIGHT" at any time takes you to the "Subtitles" button. Navigating "LEFT" takes you back a level to the "SETUP" option. Selecting and activating any of the audio selections sets the audio stream for the film, then takes you to the "SETUP\SUBTITLES" page. Navigating "DOWN" from the "Subtitles" button does not wrap around. Selecting and activating the "Subtitles" button takes you to the "SETUP\SUBTITLES" page.) SETUP\SUBTITLES (Page 1): ![]() (The current subtitle stream for the film is called out by the small right arrow to the left of the given menu item. Navigating "UP" from the topmost item wraps around to the last available subtitles selection on Page 2. Navigating "RIGHT" at any time takes you to the "Audio" button. Navigating "LEFT" takes you back a level to the "SETUP" option. Selecting and activating any of the subtitles selections sets the subtitle stream for the film, then takes you back a level to the "PLAY" option. Navigating "DOWN" from the "Audio" button does not wrap around. Selecting and activating the "Audio" button of course takes you to the "SETUP\AUDIO" page. | Additional pic: Page 2) SCENES (Chapters 1-4): ![]() (Chapter 1 is always selected by default when selecting and activating the "SCENES" option. Navigating "UP/DOWN" from there wraps around at either end. Navigating "RIGHT" does nothing. Navigating "LEFT" takes you back a level to the "SCENES" option. | Additional pics: Chapters 5-8, Chapters 9-12, Chapters 13-16) EXTRAS: ![]() (The "EXTRAS" option organizes its content into 4 categories. Selecting a given menu item and navigating "RIGHT" or pressing "OK" takes you to a dedicated page, one or more sub-menu items then being presented. Navigating "LEFT" takes you back a level.) EXTRAS\COMMENTARIES: ![]() (The "COMMENTARIES" option provides for setting the stream for the film to one of the commentary tracks. Selecting and activating the "On" option for a given commentary track sets the audio stream accordingly, then taking you to the "PLAY" option. Selecting then activating the "PLAY" option at that point resumes playback if possible, otherwise playback starts from the beginning. Selecting and activating the "Off" option for a given commentary track restores the previous non-commentary stream that was selected, then taking you to the "EXTRAS" option. Navigating "LEFT" takes you back a level.) EXTRAS\PRE-PRODUCTION: ![]() (The "PRE-PRODUCTION" option organizes its related content into 2 categories. Selecting a given menu item and navigating "RIGHT" or pressing "OK" takes you to a dedicated page, one or more sub-menu items then being presented. Navigating "LEFT" takes you back a level.) EXTRAS\PRE-PRODUCTION\PREP\The Testing Phase: ![]() (The "Prep" category offers 2 bonus features, the first of which is selected above. Note the "Run Time" displayed near the bottom of the screen. This is always the case when the selected menu item is a playable bonus feature, otherwise no "Run Time" is shown. | Additional pic: Safe Cracking School) EXTRAS\PRE-PRODUCTION\PREVISUALIZATION\Creating the Previs: ![]() (The "Previsualization" category offers 5 bonus features, the first of which is selected above. Again, note the "Run Time" displayed near the bottom of the screen. This indicates that the "Creating the Previs" menu item is a playable bonus feature. The same is the case for the "Previs Demo" menu items. The last two menu items do not display a "Run Time" in this case as each offer dedicated pages where one or more sub-menu items are presented. | Additional pics: Previs Demo, Previs Demo with Commentary) EXTRAS\PRE-PRODUCTION\PREVISUALIZATION\Habitrail Film: ![]() (Selecting the "Habitrail Film" menu item and navigating "RIGHT" or pressing "OK" takes you to the dedicated page shown above. Only one playable item is offered in this case, the dedicated page used so a description of the bonus feature can be given.) EXTRAS\PRE-PRODUCTION\PREVISUALIZATION\Multi-Angle Featurette: ![]() (Selecting the "Multi-Angle Featurette" menu item and navigating "RIGHT" or pressing "OK" takes you to the dedicated page shown above, the dedicated page providing for a description of the bonus feature to be given, the bonus feature spanning across 8 menu items. With the original disc the description provided on Page 1 is a wall of text. In the mock-up pictured above I decided to break things up a bit. The details are much easier to digest as a result I think. I also went with a smaller font size for the menu items, menu items 2-8 fitting comfortably on Page 2. The original disc spreads the menu items across 3 pages. Page 2 contains menu items 2-6. Page 3 contains menu items 7-8. Navigating "DOWN" from the last menu item on Page 3 does wrap back around to Page 1. | Additional pic: Page 2) EXTRAS\PRODUCTION\Shooting Panic Room: ![]() (Selecting the "PRODUCTION" category and navigating "RIGHT" or pressing "OK" takes you to the dedicated page shown above, the first menu item being selected by default. Again note the "Run Time" here, an indication that the selected menu item is a playable bonus feature. The same is the case for the "Make Up Effects" bonus feature. | Additional pic: Make Up Effects) EXTRAS\EASTER EGGS\Real Safe Rooms: ![]() (Selecting the "EASTER EGG" category and navigating "RIGHT" or pressing "OK" takes you to the dedicated page shown above, the first menu item being selected by default. The "Run Time" is once again present, an indication that the selected menu item is a playable bonus feature. The same is the case for the "Breaking the Mirror" bonus feature. | Additional pics: Breaking the Mirror, Digital Video Essentials) EXTRAS\RESUME: ![]() (The original disc only supports resuming playback of a bonus feature when you stop playback of the disc, then start playback again. When doing this a "Resume Playback?" prompt is displayed after the disc loads, the options "Yes" (...resume where you left off.) and "No" (...start from beginning.) given. In the mock-up pictured above the same "Resume Playback?" prompt would be given if applicable without having to stop and restart playback of the disc. Navigating "DOWN" would provide for backing out if you change your mind.) __________________________________ I created a mock-up of the POPUP MENU as well, the menu graphics confined in this case to the 2.35:1 aspect ratio of the movie, no portion of the menu being obstructed as a result if one happens to be projecting the Blu-ray on a scope screen. ![]() ![]() (Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.) Additional pics of the POPUP MENU... Setup: Audio, Subtitles (Page 1), Subtitles (Page 2) Scenes: Chapters 1-4, Chapters 5-8, Chapters 9-12, Chapters 13-16 Extras: Commentaries, Commentaries\Resume Pre-Production (Prep): The Testing Phase, Safe Cracking School Pre-Production (Previsualization): Creating the Previs, Previs Demo, Previs Demo with Commentary, Habitrail Film, Multi-Angle Featurette (Page 1), Multi-Angle Featurette (Page 2) Production: Shooting Panic Room, Make Up Effects Easter Eggs: Real Safe Rooms, Breaking the Mirror, Digital Video Essentials __________________________________ And why not, let's take Sony's secondary POPUP MENU to the next level shall we. In the mock-ups pictured below, the secondary POPUP MENU is accessible during "First Playback", before and after the "Feature Film" is played and while playing a given "Bonus Feature". (With the original disc the secondary POPUP MENU is only accessible when playing a bonus feature and only provides for returning to the TOP MENU, even in cases where a bonus feature is played from the POPUP MENU of the Feature Film. Doh!) FIRST PLAYBACK (Proceed to Main Menu): When accessed during First Playback prior to reaching TOP MENU for first time. Pressing "OK" skips directly to TOP MENU. Selecting and activating the "Close" symbol or navigating "DOWN" turns the POPUP MENU off. ![]() (Click on the preview image above to view the full size image.) ___________________ MAIN MENU (Proceed to Feature Film): When accessed after initiating playback of Feature Film from TOP MENU.
