Hm, a crime story? At first glance it sounds less compelling than Queen's Gambit, which was so great in good part because of its unusual setting.

With that name, it must be based on Jussi Adler Olsen's very succesful 'Afdeling Q' novel series, which has been adapted for six Danish feature films so far.

I guess Olsen must have sold the series rights to Netflix, but I don't know what novels they are allowed to adapt...

For those not knowing, Dept. Q is the 'career graveyard' where a burned out cop and his assistant are tasked with solving (or dismissing) unsolved cases.

That's just a remake of the first Dept Q film The Keeper of Lost Causes from 2013.

A 9-part series probably covers a lot more ground than a 2-hour film, also the setting has been changed to Scotland

I don't know anything about the novels or previous adaptations, but this looks a little like Slow Horses? Could be better than I had expected from the first announcement.

Looks like it. With a lot of stuff added.

The original Danish title of the novel/film 'Kvinden i Buret' translates to 'The Woman in the Cage'.

According to this site, the Danish releases of the first four have English subs.

I can't verify with my discs atm, because most of my blu-ray collection is currently boxed up and at my mum's place, because of renovations in my flat.

This release has English subtitles. First 3 or 4 movies used to be on Netflix, not sure if they still are. Movies are hilghly recommended and discs are excellent as well.

I really enjoyed the first season. Will watch more if they make them. Will have to try and track down the movies as well.

The movie is only 90 minutes long and basically a Cliff Notes version of the rather dense book. The Netflix show may over correct by extending it to 9 hour long episodes though. The whole cast is terrific in the Netflix show while the only stand out in the films for me is Fares Fares as the immigrant cop from Syria.

Apparently there's some conflict behind the scenes in the Danish film series. The first four were produced by the same company with the same cast. Apparently the books author (Jussi Adler-Olsen) was not happy with them and pulled a Kirkman/Walking Dead (or Mignola/Hellboy) and had a stronger say with the last two films which featured an entirely new cast. But the popularity of the films suffered...
