The War of the Worlds 4K Blu-ray 70th. July 23 '23

Paramount will be releasing the classic Sci-fi film The War of the Worlds (1953) on 4K UHD on September 27th as part of their Paramount Presents line. Also included will be a remastered Blu-ray of When Words Collide (1951). Originally based on Target's listing, it was thought that both would be in 4K, but sadly, it is just WotW.

I expected Paramount would have licensed these out what with the whole Kino deal and all. Oh well, cool beans.

I know right, this is pretty incredible. I expected Criterion to release WotW on 4K, and Kino to release When Worlds Collide. Also not sure if this is any indication that Paramount will be pulling rights from Criterion. Could just be a situation where the studio retains the right to release it themselves too, which happened with a few Universal releases (e.g. Charade).

First time I go online today and I see this news. Fantastic! War of the Worlds is a '50s favorite and I've always wanted to see When Worlds Collide.

Paramount hasn't pulled the rights to the Shout titles they licensed (Escape from LA, Event Horizon). At least last I checked. Could be the same case here.

Unless there's something else I don't know about.

Invaders from Mars (1953) has been announced as a UHD from Ingite films for a late September release. Limited to 1,000 units, they say.

That limit was only for the signed poster edition.

A standard edition is coming in September.
