Default A History of Violence

Any word out on if this movie will be coming to high def formats? Not sure if I'm the only one interested or not but I could see it being a great release.

It's a New Line movie so I would anticipate sometime early 08. They are starting to release more movies lately. I too, would like to have it.

I always loved this movie but I haven't re-watched it in years. My girlfriend hadn't seen it so I was excited to introduce her to it, saying its "so good!".

... Well, I still think its great but something seems off now. The acting from Bello and the kid who plays her (and Tom's) son seem so over dramatic. I feel awkward saying it but it was laughably over the top. Both my girlfriend and I accidentally giggled at several moments in it which ultimately made me feel bad for talking it up (because I truly believed it and I hate when people laugh at a serious movie).

Most of the men give great, nuanced performances but yeah. Has anyone else experienced this? I still consider myself a fan of A History of Violence. It's great... But the fact that its a comic book (actually a graphic novel but whatever) adaption seems a lot more obvious now. It's often cartoonishly over the top and the dialogue sounds stilted and awkward coming from the sons mouth.

I think I know what the problem is. Since I last saw it, I've watched Breaking Bad. And... Other amazing crime drama's which are more subtle and nuanced.

Again, I still dig the movie but now I consider it a graphic novel adaption rather than simply a film on its own.

I've resisted buying the current Blu-ray because of negative PQ reviews. This film definitely needs to be a part of my BD collection so hopefully it'll receive a better release someday.

I love this movie. Need a better transfer, though.

Viggo is the man of course, but after breaking bad most films and shows just fall short haha. The movie is aging a little rough but still an enjoyable view. The nude wife is never a problem either.

Slow burn to this one. I loved the setting and the belief that the mob had the wrong man. 9/10

Yep, same here. You also can't beat Maria Bello naked.

Recently “upgraded” my DVD of this and watching tonight. This movie desperately needs a new transfer and encode. BD basically looks like a DVD. Tons of DNR, no detail. A real disappointment.

^Yea, this movie needs a new transfer for sure. I remember revisiting my Blu-ray last summer and it did NOT look good. There's a buttload of DNR.

I can live with it, but I'm always curious who makes these choices when it comes to DNR? I really don't understand how they can slather it on some films, and others they leave completely alone.

If you’re multi-region capable, the UK release is greatly superior because it has none of the DNR and also features the uncensored international cut of the film, versus the tamer U.S. R-rated cut.

I am multi region capable. Is this the one?

Adds insult to injury that I could have imported this for almost the same cost I bought the US version.

I think it's available now. I prefer the cover on the Canadian Alliance release though.
