Default The Amityville Curse - From Tubi

Tubi Turning Hans Holzer’s Novel ‘The Amityville Curse’ into an Original Streaming Movie

Quote:
Tubi announced today at Content Canada that it will expand upon its collaboration with Incendo on an upcoming slate of projects that includes a new film adaptation of Hans Holzer’s The Amityville Curse, which was published in 1981. That book ended up serving as the basis for official franchise movie The Amityville Curse, which was released in 1990.

The new adaptation of Hans Holzer’s novel will be a modern take on the ever popular franchise with a fictionalized story that remains true to the novel. Further ensuring an authentic approach, Incendo has secured the underlying rights to Hans Holzer’s titular original novel from the estate. The film is being adapted by Dennis Heaton (“Motive”) and directed by Éric Tessier (“You Will Remember Me”), with Graham Ludlow (“Terror Train”), Kaleigh Kavanagh (“Terror Train”), Brook Peters (“Terror Train”) and Shari Segal (“Terror Train”) executive producing alongside fellow author and Hans Holzer’s daughter, Alexandra Holzer, whose contribution to the film pays tribute to continuing the authenticity and legacy of her father’s work.

The Amityville Curse is currently in pre-production and scheduled to film in Montreal, Canada.

The original movie was, in fact, radically different to the novel. That was for the better because the novel is one of the absolute worst things I've ever tried to read. I'm a diehard, I slogged through all the "official" books and The Nightmare Continues, and I couldn't even get halfway through Holzer's The Amityville Curse. So my hopes are not high (pun intended).

The Jay Anson book only remotely works if you are willing (or gullible enough) to humor the hoaxers and accept the "It's True" B.S. on their terms. When I was a wee lad and didn't know any better I thought it was scary but now, yeah, it's pretty terrible. Read outside of its time and place (late 70s "Da Debil's Comin' Ta Getcha!!!!!!! supernatural hysteria zeitgeist) it's simply garbage. Worse, it's badly-written garbage. The John G. Jones sequel novels (which can barely even maintain a straight face while continuing to claim "no, really, seriously, this sh*t is fo realz!!!!") are even worse.

Also: Hans Holzer, much like the Warren hucksters shamefully lionized in the Conjuring movies, was a straight-up conman and bullsh*t peddler.

Have you read The Amityville Curse?

If not I do not encourage you to do so but you will just have to trust me when I say it is so, so much worse than any of Jones' books, which, yes, is REALLY saying something.

And for the record, no, I don't believe there are or ever were actual ghosts or demons in the house either. I don't believe in that sort of thing.

Nope. Waaaaay back when I tried to read something by Holzer called The Secret of Amityville and it was so bad even my pre-high school self could not stand it. As soon as he trotted out the moldy oldie "Cursed Indian Burial Ground" claptrap I pulled the emergency eject button. Even as a confirmed garbage-horror junkie I will defile myself only so much.

Yeah that's what the Curse book is about too. Bunch of nonsense about native ghosts or whatever. His favorite old chestnut.

Speakiing of Tubi, what happened to their streams in 1080p? They didn't have them for the longest time. And then they added them. And it looks like they took them away pretty quickly.

I think I remember reading a quote from someone saying that they only have streams in 720p because it has the greatest compatibility or something. I didn't know they used to offer 1080p.

I will watch it just to compare it to the original Amityville Curse. Plus we haven’t received an official film in a while just mostly cheap budget films using the Amityville title. I too wish we have more of the 90s direct to video Amityville films. I guess we need Steve White back to get the films with the same quality.

Looks like exactly what I expect from a Tubi original. So, awful, but at least made by professionals who have some idea what they’re doing. More than can be said for most flicks with Amityville in the title.

Yeah the original Jay Anson book is terrible. I’m listening to the audio book now. There needs to be a drinking game anytime someone says “What the hell was that?”
