The Jay Anson book only remotely works if you are willing (or gullible enough) to humor the hoaxers and accept the "It's True" B.S. on their terms. When I was a wee lad and didn't know any better I thought it was scary but now, yeah, it's pretty terrible. Read outside of its time and place (late 70s "Da Debil's Comin' Ta Getcha!!!!!!! supernatural hysteria zeitgeist) it's simply garbage. Worse, it's badly-written garbage. The John G. Jones sequel novels (which can barely even maintain a straight face while continuing to claim "no, really, seriously, this sh*t is
fo realz!!!!") are even worse.
Also: Hans Holzer, much like the Warren hucksters shamefully lionized in the
Conjuring movies, was a straight-up conman and bullsh*t peddler.
