Aww I just imported The Pit a few weeks ago finally. We'll have to see what they do with it. Happy for Quatermass II though.

11/10 announcement, Scream Factory might end up my favorite label this year just based on this!!!

Quatermass and the Pit is an absolute must-watch for any fan of sci-fi, it's such an ambitious movie with really cool ideas. It bites off more than it can chew with a few setpieces, but it doesn't matter. JC's Prince of Darkness and Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce are very directly influenced by it, but it's more intelligent than either. I have two discs of it already due to stupidly thinking I might be able to play the Anolis version on my non-Region Free player, but if this has any extra material or a different transfer I'll definitely pick up a third copy. I think the existing one isn't bad, though.

Quatermass 2 is a very different movie, and almost as good IMO. I think it's superior to the similar Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and it was a precursor as well. It gets pretty outrageous at the end, but I love that, too. There's no non-upscale release of it in the world, and it's a killer pick-up for Scream.

All other releases I'm aware of Quatermass II are 1.33 or 1.37:1...

Is there evidence that it's supposed to be 1.66:1 like the Xperiment blu-ray?

Watch Shout/Scream screw this one up... (you know they’ll do something wrong, it’s almost guaranteed something will be wrong or not up to par with other releases)

My Kino disc of The Quatermass Experiment has been lonely for a while now, and it needs company.

Great announcement!

When the only competition for Quatermass II is an upscale extra, I don't think they have anything to worry about.

Quatermass and the Pit is getting rather long in the tooth, also. IIRC the extras on that one were 1080i/25 fps though, so maybe they'll do the f'd up conversion to NTSC that made the TV cut of Army of Darkness and the extras on Mad Max unwatchable and like you were on dramamine. That's the only thing I can really think of with potential for a mistake.

Before everyone screeches that the sky is falling and Scream is evil;

Quote:
**MORE TITLES COMING THIS SUMMER!**
Our love for Hammer Films this year continues as we announce today that we are prepping QUATERMASS II and QUATERMASS AND THE PIT for Blu-ray releases on May 14th!
QUATERMASS II (1957): The sequel to The Quatermass Xperiment! Professor Quatermass (Brian Donlevy) is Britain's most clever scientist. Investigating a series of bizarre incidents that have been reported from a deserted area, he finds a group of soldiers and government officials that appear to be controlled by aliens from another world. When a close friend is brutally murdered by these beings, Quatermass leads a mob of local workers to a showdown with the extraterrestrials. The film was retitled Enemy from Space for its U.S. theatrical release.
QUATERMASS AND THE PIT (1967): Hobbs End, Knightsbridge, London. While working on a new subway tunnel for the London Underground, a group of construction workers uncover a strangely shaped skull. Nearby, another discovery: a large, mysterious and impenetrable metal object. Initially mistaken for an unexploded bomb, the object and its strange power turn out to be far more horrific than anybody could have possibly imagined. Is it of this earth? Could it be the ancestral link to mankind's evolution? Or could it be an ancient link to the unleashing of the ultimate evil? There's only one man capable of unravelling the clues, and his name is Professor Bernard Quatermass (Andrew Keir), a man of science who thrives on the dark mysteries of the world. Written by legendary screenwriter Nigel Kneale, Quatermass And The Pit is a seminal British sci-fi classic. For its U.S. release by 20th Century Fox, the film was retitled Five Million Years to Earth.
Extras and specs are in progress and will be announced on a later date.
Pre-order QUATERMASS II now @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/quatermass-2…
Pre-order QUATERMASS AND THE PIT now @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...the-pit…
So I assume those are placeholders subject to change given the very explicit "Specs are in progress."

EDIT: They should be contacted in a non-whiny matter if there's real AR info about II out there just in case they ARE planning on releasing it in the wrong one. They've been pretty receptive to that kind of thing recently.

I don't think any release of Quatermass and the Pit on DVD or BD has the mono track. They've always been downmixes of the 1997 Anchor Bay remix with addded sound effects.
