Fans of the Resident Evil film franchise can now rest easy knowing that the story will continue in at least one more feature. The folks over at STYD have learned that Resident Evil 6 has been given a September 12, 2014 release date, confirming that the sequel will indeed be moving forward. This is a bit of a curious development, as last we heard, director Paul W.S. Anderson was gearing up to film the epic Pompeii this year with Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) set as the lead. If the 2014 date for Resident Evil is indeed true, there’s no possible way that Anderson is filming both movies this year; either the production start-date for Pompeii has been pushed or someone else is directing Resident Evil 6 or Pompeii.
Though last year’s Resident Evil: Retribution broke the series’ impressive streak of each film grossing more than its predecessor, its final total of $221 million worldwide is nonetheless striking. I’ve only ever seen the first Resident Evil so I have no idea where the series is at plot-wise, but Anderson told us last September that he had a story in mind for RE6 that involved a lot of death and would possibly bring the franchise to a close. What about you, Resident Evil fans? What do you hope to see in the next sequel? It was recently reported that Sony Pictures is moving forward with a sixth "Resident Evil" movie and has already scheduled it for a September 12th, 2014 release. Now comes word that Paul WS Anderson will return to direct and will begin shooting this fall. After Anderson completed the first "Resident Evil" trilogy, he announced that he would like to make another one. Unless "Resident Evil 6" is a massive hit, it will likely be the last installment in the franchise. The last movie grossed $221 million on a $65 million budget, showing that it still has the ability to earn money, despite bringing in less than the fifth installment ($296 million). At this point, the studio has yet to reveal the title, plot and the cast for "Resident Evil 6," but Milla Jovovich is expected to reprise her role. I hope to see it come to a close, if only to reboot it and make it MUCH closer to the original games' stories and tone. The films have focused WAY too much on the action, and not enough on the horror. Sad thing is, the games have started to go down that same road.

As long as its better than the last one. I own and enjoy all the re movies as fun popcorn flicks but this new one was just awful, that I hate I spent the money on it. It was like a demo reel of the fmv scenes too a video. It had no story what so ever. It was set up like a bad video game with no story. The movies had levels for each character with end bosses.

I have been watching Prison Break the last 3 days and could not figure out who the main guy was. It turned out to be Wentworth Miller. That guy is an amazing actor. I just started season 2 today. He kind of reminds me of Eminem when I first started to watch the show. |

I lost interest in this franchise after the 3rd film came out, and have been following the development of the films hoping they could make them closer the video games. The news that this is the final film in the sequence is good news indeed, as it means they can reboot it as an adaptation of the games.
Anderson will probably act as writer/producer on this as he has done in previous films in the franchise. The RE series is the only thing he has of any form of success, and he is desperate to move on from it as director. Shame that The 3 Musketeers wasn't more successful. ![]() |

And I think it's safe to say that most of us here hope this series gets rebooted in the future and goes more in line with the tone the actual game provides. I mean, the idea of being alone in a huge mansion invaded by zombies but like those from the game.......it's clostraphobic and thrilling. DO IT! |

I really hope they focus on the battle with Umbrella and Red Queen. I was disappointed that they didn't focus more on the battle with new creatures and army to face. They began to lose the story arc of Umbrella Co. looking to gain power and thee transformation of the the T-virus and it being used to create stronger, deadlier creatures with Extinction. While I liked all the films, I felt they did away with the story of Umbrella's quest to take of the world and the ultimate fight between the program and mankind's fight for survival. I just hope they actually have a story where they have Milla, k-mart, Claire and Chris Redfield fight the overwhelming power of the Red Queen's army. A nice balance of action and a plan to follow in order to defeat the Red Queen without Alice's character needed to do it. Unfortunately, that is how I see it going down since Wesker gave her powers back despite taking it away in the movie before. They need to kill of Alice's character and let the new guys take the mantle to defeat the Umbrella Co-Red Queen. Just hope I am not disappointed with the lack of battle between the army the Umbrella Co had at the end of Afterlife, but failed to really show battle between the infected-controlled army and the struggling survivors since the outbreak.
