I'm highly against this. Dimension Films needs to leave "Short Circuit" alone! The movie was great in 1986, and it should remain in 1986!

Wow, something about the idea of this makes me cringe. Though, on the plus side at least the original writers will be involved, so maybe it won't be totally butchered. Maybe they will reuse that awesome line, "Hey laser lips! Your mama was a snow blower!"

Bah, the sheer mentioning for Short Circuit takes me back to my college days.

Back when I was in college (this is going back about 7 or 8 years ago) I had an apartment near campus for the last 2 years, and I essentially had free cable. I wasn't 'supposed' to, but after the previous guy moved out, even though they stopped billing him, they apparently never cut off the signal. When I moved in, I saw the cable jack on the wall, and hooked up a wire to see if I would get anything, and sure enough, I had free cable the whole time I was there.

For some reason TBS didn't come in well, and it was mainly just basic cable aside from the Encore movie channel. And there was a good couple of months where Short Circuit 2 apparently accounted for like 90% of what was being aired on that channel. It seemed like almost everytime I turned it on, that movie was either on, or coming up next, or whatever. Ugh... I think I'm going to have nightmares about Johnny 5 now.

First sequels were the big thing, now this. Hollywood is just desperate for new material. Isn't there something like 5 original movie themes and everything else is a spin off of those themes?

Look what they did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, compared to the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Gene Wilder did a genial job of the excentric candy maker. While Jonny Depp took the path of fruity gay-dom. More eye candy, yet less appeal. No a single authentic Oompa Loompa song to be heard!

Hollywood must realize that audiences of today like a movie for the same reason we liked it back then. If you ask me, most movies are trite and forgetable throw aways.

No surprise. WALL-E looks like Johnny 5's heterosexual brother.

I don't disagree but you picked a bad example since those were two movies that really did not have the same goals in mind.

also, the Depp one wasn't a remake of the movie, it was a new movie made from the same source material.

You do realize the Roald Dahl didn't like the Wilder version? He felt David Seltzer butchered Dahl's original screenplay, and refused to give permission for the sequel (Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator) to be filmed.

Being that Number Five was a robot... and lacked reproductive organs... and hormones... I doubt he/she/it could be classified as any sexual orientation.

That said, this remake is gonna be stoopid.

He's straight.

Remember how much he liked Alley Sheedy's "software"?

Why do they remake movies? They just end up butchering what we loved when we grew up. Get something new and quit re-hashing something that already is done!!!

The tag-line for Short Circuit 2:

Some say he's nuts. Some say he's bolts. But can Number Five make it in the big, bad city? Keep your wires crossed.

Though I grew up with the 1970's version, it is STILL more endearing to me than the new one. The characters are more charming, or more believable to hate. The kids on the new version don't have half the talent of Albert Finny's baggy pants. A timeless classic for all generations.

That was a great loss. David Seltzer should have just embraced the success of the movie. It was a fantasy spectacal unlike anything before it.
