Look what they did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, compared to the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Gene Wilder did a genial job of the excentric candy maker. While Jonny Depp took the path of fruity gay-dom. More eye candy, yet less appeal. No a single authentic Oompa Loompa song to be heard!

Hollywood must realize that audiences of today like a movie for the same reason we liked it back then. If you ask me, most movies are trite and forgetable throw aways.

I don't disagree but you picked a bad example since those were two movies that really did not have the same goals in mind.

also, the Depp one wasn't a remake of the movie, it was a new movie made from the same source material.
