I've not seen this yet but I would presume that the unrated version of the film would be the preferred version to watch?

Yeah what a waste not having the unrated version in 4k. Makes this release a wasted opportunity. Seems like the unrated blu is just the same as the old one. I'll just stick with the old blu.

I think this film is severely underrated.

While it doesn't have quite the shock value of the original, the remake is solid enough. It has fine performances and beautiful cinematography. I'll probably pick it up and while the R-rated version is fine on its own, they really should have included the unrated version in 4k as well.

Yeah we definitely need the ‘82 version. The remake is ok but I’m fine with my Unrated Blu-ray.

Not having the Unrated in 4K is disappointing. Having doubts on whether to get it or not….

I've never seen this one before but remember the trailer. It always bugged me when they're sticking that dude's head in the microwave, because a microwave turns off when you open it. Hopefully there was a scene showing someone rigging it up so that it wouldn't turn off when the microwave door opens up.

At first I was genuinely excited for this release, but only doing a 4K on the theatrical cut kind of sinks this one from being a Day 1 purchase because I'd only be buying it for the special features at that point. May get it eventually I guess, but in no rush. I cannot understand these companies cannot do HD inserts for the unrated scenes that they do not have elements for. If you can do it with awful VHS footage for My Bloody Valentine and Silent Night, Deadly Night, surely you can do it for a movie like this that is 14 years old and has decent quality HD Blu-ray. Just baffling.

This does seem like a bizarre release given that most fans will want to watch the uncut version and that's been widely available on blu for years.

I already have the unrated cut on BD, so there is no need to upgrade.

The difference isn't that drastic. Mainly the
[Show spoiler]rape scene is a bit more explicit/longer, and Marie's friends death has slightly different footage/alternate angles. There's a couple smaller changes earlier on, but nothing of real importance. Movie-censorship.com has a comparison in case you're curious.
. So while it's annoying the unrated version isn't available on the 4k release. It's not the end of the world. The movie is practically the same in either version, with the unrated being just a tiny bit more explicit.

You know what though? The past two Christmas' I've watched the R-Rated cut of Silent Night, Deadly Night, and I don't miss the horrible unrated VHS footage one bit. I know what happens and I've seen the footage, but it's in awful shape, and I have a more enjoyable experience enjoying the new remaster straight through without VHS shots mixed in. I hate when poor-quality inserts take me out of a film, and with 4k it would be even more jarring. If they ever were to find the footage and restore it, that's fantastic, but until then, I'm happy enjoying the R-rated cut. I guess it helps that for that film, you're not missing too much really.

My Bloody Valentine looked awful the first time it was released with that lost footage, but the latest version looks much improved, though it still takes you out a bit for a moment or two.

What I don't get though is where is this unrated footage for this film? It was just shot in 2009. Did they lose it already? The old unrated blu-ray looked very consistent if memory serves, so that unrated footage must be in pretty good shape. Would it really be that hard to work that into the 4k remaster and match the footage close enough that it's not distracting? Working subpar VHS footage into a new blu-ray remaster works as well as it sounds, but since this footage already looks very good on blu-ray, I have a hard time believing there was no way of them blending the unrated footage in.

But if for some reason they couldn't pull it off without being super distracting, then I understand them not going through with it. Nobody wants poor-quality footage mixed in with an otherwise pristine 4k remaster.
