Are We Up Against DVD, Downloadable Content, or the Least Likely, HD-DVD. I did not make an option like "Blu-Ray has no Competition" Because to be fair, there's huge Competition.

DVD.
We already have downloadable content and it isn't working so hot. Pay per view = downloadable content. Same thing. Yet, people still rent millions upon millions of titles and still buy millions upon millions of dvds. People wonder why Toshiba is still dumping money into marketing HDDVD? This is why. Toshiba makes billions off DVD patents and licensing. By keeping confusion they can keep DVD on the field. It hasn't been about HDDVD for months (probably over a year) for Toshiba. DVD has always been the baby they have been trying desperately to protect. Microsoft has only been in it to try and create enough confusion to give digital downloads a chance (which in reality it won't have for many many years given current bandwidth limitations). The cold hard reality check is simple: Once HDDVD is gone, DVD will begin to phase out very quickly as Blu-ray high definition steps up to become the new standard. If anyone doubts this, they would be a very confused person. People don't by HDTV's if they can own a lower res cheaper TV and have the same picture. As marketing grows in the high def segment consumers will quickly migrate to a complete high def component stance. It just takes a solid foundation of standardized format and things start falling in place quickly. Just look how fast Blu has instantly dominate and how many retailers, rental shops, etc., have almost immediately bailed on HDDVD from one simple Warner announcement. |

It is SD DVD. Due to current events and new news of the format constantly killing Hd DVD is sales... well in everything..... i think the hurdle is becoming smaller each day. Especially since BB and Netflix are joining the blu wagon

I still say Blu's biggest competition is against the un-informed consumer and those who still cant admit that finally the war looks to be ending. Just like VHS did when we can all agree on one format even DVD's will slowly stop being made because the market is owned by Blu.

I chose DVD, I think it will be a while before many DVD supporters make the change to Blu-Ray. I constantly hear people saying that their DVD collections look just fine on their TV. I try to show them what it looks like in HD, and they just don't seem to get it. I don't understand how they cannot see the difference. I think they just don't want to see it. Ignorance is Bliss.
