Default Blu ray should offer combo discs to play in standard dvd players

One of the saddest things with the demise of HD-dvd is that they offered combo discs that allowed you to play their discs on regular dvd players. It is so frustrating that I have to think about whether to buy blu-ray or just standard because I only have one blu ray disc. It's a major annoyance. Anyone else agree?

No, can't say that I agree.

I'm happy with the Blu-ray releases, just as they are. Gluing another DVD to it would just cause potential problems down the road.

Couldn't disagree more. Even some HD-DVD zealots hate combos. They suck. Good riddance to them.

I think this is a horrible idea and should not be pursued

HUH? If you have a Blu player, why do you have to think about buying the SD or BD? Please explain.

No Universal had tons of playback problems involving the dvd18, so I dont wanna deal with it with blu-ray. Already have problems with idiots and their firmware updates. Dont wanna complicate blu-ray anymore than it is

That would defeat the purpose of hi-def. People need to be weaned off SD-DVD not encouraged to keep it.

No way. No one needs a DVD player anymore. People should just move on and not keep living in the past with old technology. Let's not encourage it.

oh heck no! I couldn't disagree more, I would hate compromise quality over satisfying that small percentage of people wanting such combo discs.

I can relate to the OP in that I only have one blu player. It's out in the living room and I don't always want to watch movies out there. sometimes I like to watch them in elsewhere and can't. My wife has tried to stop me from buying certain movies on Blu specifically because she can't watch them where ever she wants too.

Personally, I'll just deal with it until a 2nd player becomes more affordable though. I do not want combo discs because of all of the issues with double sided DVDs and with hd-dvd combos.

The gall ! I am dual format and we hated those. Darn re-issues.

How about a DVD that comes with a VHS tape?

wash your mouth out with soap young man... what a terrible idea. I like my title and picture printed on the other side.
