Rating: NR Genre: Drama, Mystery & Suspense Directed By: Emerald Fennell Written By: Emerald Fennell In Theaters: Apr 17, 2020 Studio: Focus Features This looks amazing. Easily one of my most-anticipated of 2020. At the moment it is my most-anticipated. I've been a huge fan of Carey Mulligan ever since An Education and I've been hoping she'd get a great role again soon. This looks like one. I've watched the trailer 4 times so far (to be fair a couple of those times I was showing it to others ![]() The film will be premiering at Sundance. I'm anxious for reviews to come out and tide me over until April. Here's hoping they're great ![]() |

Am in total agreement about Carey Mulligan. My favorite working actress. Tremendous talent, fascinating face, wonderful voice. Have loved her in everything since "An Education", especially "Mudbound", "Inside Llewyn Davis" and "Shame". I've always felt there was some kind of lovely throughline -artistically and even appearance-wise - linking Jean Simmons, Sarah Miles, Emily Watson and now Carey Mulligan. Each a luminous and sensitive presence in her generation.

I've been wanting her to have a comeback. She's such a talented actress and was an "it girl" for a while after An Education. Has given many great turns since her Oscar nomination in films such as Never Let Me Go, Drive, Shame, and Wildlife, but for the most part I feel she's really under-appreciated and gets over-looked. For sure should have had Oscar nominations for Never Let Me Go, Shame, and Wildlife. This isn't the kind of movie that will earn her one either, but it does look like a great role regardless. Potentially one of her best (will be hard to top An Education for me).

I've been reading Twitter reactions since they started coming in. It sounds amazing. Exactly like something I'll love and I honestly will not be surprised if it's my favorite film of the year. Now I just have to wait until April and also try to avoid spoilers.

Push it back to November so Carey is in the Oscar race. Based on the trailer, this is the kind of performance that I want to see, one with serious grit to it, winning an Oscar. Not the same old shit. |

It would be great if performances and films like this were nominated but it's very unlikely. She's obviously going to give a dynamite performance. She's receiving raves out of Sundance. Being that it's part dark comedy I could see her getting nominated at the Golden Globes for Actress in a Comedy or Musical. As weird as it would be to see it in that category at least it could get her nominated. Maybe, just maybe, the recognition there could help sneak her in at the Oscars. But let's be real. The majority of the Academy members are not going to appreciate this film. Oh well. I know I'll be rooting for her when the time comes but won't be surprised when she's shut out. At least she's making a comeback in a role that is sure to get her noticed again.

The packed house I saw it in loved it (as did I) this may be my favorite of the fest so far and that is saying something because this has been a really great year.
Loved what they did with Bo Burnham’s character. Excited for this to play far and wide. |

Don’t be cautious. I saw it in a theaters full of “normal” people, few press were in attendance. Lots of cheers and clapping afterwards.

Well, there's the difference between the Sundance audience and the general public. It usually doesn't translate well with the exception of Little Miss Sunshine, which did break out into the general public and be well received by them in a big way.

So....she just lectures these guys and they go home and rethink their attitudes towards women?
I kept watching the trailer, looking for some sort of indication as to whether she kills/castrates/exposes these men (like I would expect), but the trailer never tips its hand. |
