Technically yes the Cable can be used in any fashion carrying the Composite style (RCA) connection fitting. They all are 75 ohm connection. The only difference you may see in the higher end cable manufacturers doing is in a Sub cable it may be larger standed copper because low frequecy travels better in that, or higher quality metals used for connection like Digi Coax for more acurate signal reproduction. But bottom line you can use for either or, but they may be engineered slightly different to maximise its intended use.

With long runs, it would probably be good to get a well shielded cable as you'll be running an unbalanced line level signal which is more prone to interference.
A cost effective option for long runs >20 feet is to consider using an RG-6U, RG-6UQ or triaxial cable which gives you good shielding against interference and then head adapt back to or solder on an RCA plug at the ends. Last edited by MouseRider; 02-15-2008 at 08:11 AM. |

One good option is to get a good, well shielded video cable. I used a generic commercial video cavle from www.markertek.com for years. The only reason I upgraded to a bluejeanscable.com sub cable was because I liked the connectors they used better.
I would suspect that a standard video cable, RCA terminated not F connector of course, would do well. analog Video cables are usually well shielded and make very good sub cables. Chris Quote:

Bluejeanscable.com makes excellent sub and connector cables, and they do it without adding any BS. The build quality is great, and they're well insulated. Plus, they will build you a custom length if you want as well. I didn't have a sub cable handy, so I was using a 75 ohm video cable with my previous sub. I later added their sub cable, and it noticeably removed some boominess from my system from my previous subwoofer. My wife even noticed the change, and she never pays attention to that stuff.
Try Bluejeanscable.com. Subs are a huge part of a surround system, and if they don't integrate seamlessly, they stick out like a sore thumb. |
