Default Question on HD Receivers

I currently have a receiver with no HDMI support, so I'm thinking of buying one of those Onkyo ones. Here's the problem though, my projector as well has no HDMI support. I was wondering if I connect something with HDMI into the receiver & connect my projector with component out, would that work?

work.... "yes" but only as well as your weakest link, which would be your projector at that point.

Yes, it will function fine. If you want to buy a receiver that is HD capable, I believe that to be a good idea as you can future-proof your purchase. Your projector is probably 1080i at best because of a lack of HDMI out, however, component can carry 1080p but few displays can show that over component. Sorry for the long answer, but yes, it will work.

with the PS3 yes. Other bluray players, probably not.

The PS3 can output video through Component cables, and output audio through the HDMI cable at the same time. (I dont know of any other player that can do this)

*NOTE: You cannot input video through HDMI and output the video by Component. (Receivers do not downconvert video signals)
