Warner Bros The Brave and the Bold - DCU Batman & Robin Film

Source: Discussing Film

Quote:
James Gunn DCU Slate: Every New Film & Show
January 31, 2023

The Brave and the Bold

General Synopsis: A Batman film focusing on his relationship with Robin, who will be the fifth incarnation of the character Damien Wayne instead of Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, or Jason Todd. This will feature a new iteration of Batman entirely separate from Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck’s take on the character. James Gunn and Peter Safran say Damien Wayne is their favorite version of Robin, calling him an “assassin” and “a little son of a *****.”The Brave and the Bold is said to be heavily inspired by Grant Morrison’s prolific comic run on the caped crusader as well as Tom King’s. The Brave and the Bold will lead into the next DCU film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Release Date: TBA

I knew nothing about Damien Wayne until I watched James Gunn's announcement, but I admit this could be very interesting. Batman having to reign in his own son, who's an assassin to boot, could make for a compelling character study.

This probably sounds the most interesting out of everything, but I’m wondering how many separate Bat-verse projects can we get before audiences become disillusioned with the character on screen.

Definitely exciting storytelling opportunities with this. I wasn't that into Morrison's run on Batman, but I loved the ideas at play and I think if done right, this could be a very unique Bat film. Plus I'm sure WB is drooling over the limitless spin-off possibilities for the Bat Family. I just think they need to rein in the spin-offs for Reeves' universe or things could get confusing very quickly.

What else does he have, other than the Penguin show with Colin Farrell? I'm not aware of anything else.

It’s a bit confusing since a few seem to have morphed into one another (and likely not going to move into production) but I believe at least one point there were plans for a Commissioner Gordon detective series called GCPD, and an Arkham Asylum series that was supposed to build out the rogues gallery. But last I heard they had been merged together, or at least one cancelled the other our.

Well, I'm more interested in the father-son dynamic than anything else for Batman at the moment; it could really be something special.

Yeah, it's definitely confusing, and I'm sure things will keep changing in the future. My guess we shouldn't assume anything on that end will happen until it hits production or is formally announced like The Batman 2 was today.

I thought to myself, why don’t they just call this ‘Batman and Robin?’

I then answered my own question and chuckled.

Hope Damien's not as irritating as he is in the comics.

Well I hope this means they can take their time w/ Pattison's Batman and not rush a rookie Batman w/ a sidekick too fast. Or not even introduce a sidekick at all if this gets a trilogy.

Robin will have plenty of shine on B&tB.

I love the idea of Robin returning and i love the idea of it being a wayward Damien Wayne, but the title Brave and the Bold evokes memories of the more goofy cartoon series in my mind. Luckily i think most general audiences won't connect it that way or at least they won't if the actual movies not goofy.

The Batman in this and Battison being on screen at the same sort of time is going to be interesting to observe because i don't technically think we have got multiple actors playing characters at the same time in the same medium like a movie unless it was deliberately part of the story like a doppelganger etc.

I'm a Batman stan which means I'm invested in this by default, but I won't lie, I've never been a Damian Wayne fan.
