Default Why banana plugs?

Why are banana plugs better than screwing the wire into the actual terminal? Can you hear a difference in the AQ?

They're more convenient, there's less chance of accidentally shorting wires, and there's a possible benefit of less cable oxidisation.

I got banana plugs more for convenience than anything. I didn't notice any difference in quality, but it takes less than half the time to hook everything up.

I think I might just buy some and disconnect my speaker wire and do it right.
im on my 3rd receiver in the past 6 months and let me tell you trying to get the wire in those holes on the newer style is hard to do. a banana plug would have saved me lots of time.

now that I think about it I should have ordered 14 sets so I had the banana plugs on both ends of my speaker cable going into my wall plate. *doh*

Has anyone upgraded their plugs and heard a difference? Just curious. I got the screw types from Blue Jeans Cable which work fine I think.

Upgrading to 28 pairs can be quite costly and want to know if it's worth it.

In other words, if there is a difference, what makes a good "audiophile" banana plug?

I doubt I will be able to tell the difference with my human ear using them. my reasoning for getting them is ease of use. I often like to get back behind the tv vacuum and dust. having these plugs will make it SOOOOO much faster then trying to fish that wire through the hole and then tighten it down.

There's a big debate on this at AVForums at the moment. Spades may be the best connector from an SQ point of view (tightness), but I think banana plugs are generally used for conveniece.

They are mostly for convenience. If you don't want to order them online, go to Radio Shack, Home Depot, or Lowes and buy them real cheap.
