Default Tremors Remake

Quote:
There’s been talk of a fifth Tremors, and possibly a reboot, since back in 2008. Now, it seems, Universal is readying the ground-shaking remake.

Don Michael Paul, who helmed both Lake Placid: The Final Chapter and Jarhead 2: Field of Fire, revealed on his blog that he’s already set to get behind the camera for a modern day Tremors.

After I finish up “Company Of Heroes: The Fourth Reich” I will be headed to Johannesburg, South Africa to reboot the “Tremors” franchise for Universal. Big year ahead and I’m excited to keep it going with the support of all you genre movie lovers out there.

I’ve never been anti-remake, although I prefer one that attempts something new. Tremors is sort of a perfect franchise to reboot, as the sequels really trailed off into crap, and with new technology, a revamp could be just what the doctor ordered.

The franchise is surprisingly nearing its 25th anniversary as it was released back in 1990 under the direction of Ron Underwood. In it, natives of a small isolated town – starring Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward and Finn Carter – defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.

I'D RATHER HAVE A 5TH MOVIE!!

I was hoping for the long-awaited fifth movie, but looks like Tremors is going the way of many other franchises these days. Oh well.

I was just about to say the same thing. The director's resume doesn't instill much hope in this film. Although, I'm sure it will be direct to DVD/Blu-ray either way.

Which makes you wonder what the point is in rebooting/remaking the first film to begin with. Considering the series got progressively worse and cheaper (though I do enjoy 2 and 3), with the sequels being direct to video, I could understand if they'd want to start over from scratch if the intention was to do a bigger budget, theatrical release to bring it into the mainstream. But if it's just another cheap direct to DVD/BD release, why not just make it Tremors 5? The fans will be the only ones that care anyway.

Yawn. "New technology" - translation: "fake CGI".

Nope.

Awful CGI and they will have to make it dark...and there will have to be a teenage love story...and an annoying kid who won't do what the hell he is told and always gets everyone into trouble.

I hope this happens just so we finally get a proper release of the original on Blu-ray! Shitty remakes/reboots = restored originals on BD.

But.......... this is Universal I'm talking about here, so they might not do anything at all. They missed the chance to release a restored version of The Thing when the shitty 2011 prequel came out.

This story doesn't make sense. If the director is Don Michael Paul then it'll just be another cheap straight-to-DVD flick, not some big budget reboot. Who would reboot for DTV?

It's possible it was an original movie that some executive decided to rename Jarhead 2 at the last minute for name recognition (Havoc 2 and 8MM2 are examples of this), but who knows? Somehow Stephen Lang, Esai Morales and Cole Hauser are in it.
