Jennifer Lawrence is in early talks to star in Sony’s space drama “Passengers,” with “The Imitation Game” director Morten Tyldum to helm.

Jon Spaihts, writer of “Doctor Strange,” is penning the script. Sony bought rights to “Passengers” in December.

“Passengers” is set on a spacecraft in the future, with thousands of passengers making an interstellar voyage to a distant new planet. One passenger awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else and decides to wake up a female passenger, sparking the beginning of a love story.

Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur will produce through Moritz’s Original Film banner along with Michael Maher for Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.

The project has a long development history: Focus was in talks to acquire U.S. rights with Keanu Reeves attached earlier in 2014; the Weinstein Co. ditched the project earlier after acquiring the rights. Both Reese Witherspoon and Rachel McAdams were at one point attached to the project.

Tyldum has been nominated for an Oscar and a DGA award for “The Imitation Game.”

Lawrence is repped by CAA and was last seen in “Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1,” which was the highest-grossing movie of 2014. She will appear in “Mockingjay — Part 2″ later this year and in “X-Men: Apocalypse” in 2016.

Clearly, taking time off doesn't really work for her. I could easily see herself burned out by 35, the way she's going.

I hope not but man, she's lining up projects left and right.

She's been quoted as saying she doesn't like having that much time off. A couple weeks and she's good to go again.

Yeah, just at the moment she's attached to a bunch. But those are at the very early stages. She's gonna start filming on JOY this coming week. On the 9th to be exact up in Boston.

Morten Tyldum is directing the long-gestating project from a script by Jon Spaihts

Chris Pratt is in early talks to star opposite Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence in Morten Tyldum’s space-set love story “Passengers,” though the actress’ busy schedule may prevent her from closing a deal, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

“Passengers” has a long, tortured development history, and after stops at the Weinstein Company and Focus Features, the project finally crash-landed at Sony back in December. Tyldum, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind “The Imitation Game,” came onboard shortly after.

“Prometheus” scribe Jon Spaihts wrote the script long before he wrote “Doctor Strange” for Marvel.

Set in the future aboard a spacecraft, “Passengers” follows a man who awakens early from a cryogenic slumber and to spare himself from being lonely, decides to wake up a female passenger, which is the role Lawrence is circling.

Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur will produce for Original Film alongside Michael Maher of Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.

Reese Witherspoon and Rachel McAdams previously flirted with the “Passengers” role that Lawrence is being eyed for, Keanu Reeves was once attached as the male lead.

Lawrence, who next stars in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” will soon begin filming David O. Russell’s “Joy” and Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Apocalypse.” She is also attached to star in Francis Lawrence’s Fox drama “The Dive.”

Pratt, who next stars in “Jurassic World,” is repped by CAA and Mosaic.

Lawrence is represented by CAA and her potential casting was first reported by Variety.

It's a David O. Russell film. So those shoot quick and she's onto X-Men next. Joy is also being made by FOX aswell. So I don't think that'll be a problem.

Yeah, they start shooting on the 9th. She was spotted up in Boston already. Where they'll be shooting. And she'll so jump into X-Men after. This girl is all about the work, work, work.

She's young and hot (in every sense) right now, and it won't last forever. Better to get the best out of your youth while you're still bankable, then take a break for a while. Then come back for more serious roles at a slower pace.
