Paramount The Relic (1997)

Paramount will be releasing The Relic on Blu-ray on October 5th.

Quote:
Thrilling tale about a deadly creature at large in the Chicago Field Museum. Following several grisly murders, a policeman teams up with a biologist to find the demonic force stalking the corridors of the museum. With the museum's gala opening being imminent, they face a race against time to track down the creature before it strikes again.

I got $5 says it's the same disc as Lions Gate put out years back.

Also noted on the link:
The Relic (Blu-ray)(2099) might be setting new records for pre-release ordering. I'm afraid I ain't gonna make it til 2099 Paramount.

The Relic and Mimic. Can never seem to recall which is which.

Edit:
Oh look, somebody even made a thread about them:
The Relic (1997) vs. Mimic (1997)

This is an enjoyable 90s creature feature; I'll definitely be picking it up - especially since the previous disc was from the Lionsgate era when they had disc rot issues.

Great novel, horrible movie. I mean they cut out the main character lol. Read the novel eeryone by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Its the first of a series.

I’ve always really liked his one. Glad it’s coming back in print so others can pick it up.

I'm actually having a tough time keeping up with all of these Paramount catalog releases and trying to find pre-orders.
It's wonderful. I used to turn sour when a movie I was interested in was in Paramount's library. They've really improved lately.

One of the best books I've ever read. Ultra creepy. Love Pendergast. I still enjoyed the movie but it wasn't the same without Special Agent Pendergast. Didn't the last blu-ray release have this same art? I'd be in for a uhd disc upgrade. I have the super cool Pegasus model of the Kothoga:

I have the Lionsgate disc. It's in good working order, but I'm aware of the issues. I may "upgrade," depending on price. A digital copy would have sweetened the deal....

They need to remaster it. The previous blu was muddy and way too dark. It’s a dark movie, but you could make out everything that the director WANTED YOU to see, in the theater showings.

It also needs some serious extras. There are lots of practical gore effects that were cut out, because of the MPAA.

A few months ago I turned down a $10 used copy at HBP and regretted it so I'm glad there's a re-release coming.

More than likely, it will be the Lionsgate disc. Nothing from Lionsgate that went back to Paramount has been anything but re-pressings with a new UPC code and a Paramount logo on the spine, and maybe some minor, easy to miss cover layout changes. Not sure about disc art as I have all the old ones I care about already, still working last I checked.

Not a particularly great horror film (and it pales to the novel), but still an enjoyable Stan Winston creature feature. It definitely could use a remaster and/or a 4K UHD release with HDR though, b/c the prior Blu was way too dark.
