Relic. I've always loved that film and it's one of the films where Hyams dark natural cinematography works to the films advantage. Mimic is fun, but it's always felt somewhat compromised.

Both are fun monster movies, but even in its compromised form, Mimic is superior.

I remember seeing Mimic in the cinema back in the summer of 98 here in the UK. Both are great monster films but I got to go with Mimic.

"Mimic" took a good concept and managed to put me to sleep with it. "The Relic" on the other hand, kept me wide awake and riveted from start to finish.

The Relic.
I do love both movies, but Stan Winston’s monster outshines the cockroach

Rewatched The Relic last night. Still intense as hell. Just wish it wasnt so dark (not surprised considering the director).

I’d have to rewatch them. I remember liking and owning both. Though I would prefer Sorvino over Miller as leads.

Mimic is something of a classic.

The Relic... isn't.

I watched Mimic last night after many years. I remember sort of dismissing it around the time it came out, didn't dislike it but wasn't blown away either. It is beautifully shot I can see now, with nice performances throughout. I watched the Director's Cut with the added 6 minutes.

I need to watch Relic again now before I vote. In my mind, I was thinking Relic but we shall see...

Update:

OK, so a few days later I got round to watching The Relic again. The last time I watched it was last year, so reasonably familiar. However, I couldn't believe how dark the picture was! Overall, it's a good film with good performances but I think my vote has to go for Mimic for the story, cinematography, performances and the monster. Maybe it's a mood thing, because I actually remembered liking The Relic more, but Mimic has my vote.
