Default 4k discs freezing up in player...

Hey everyone... I was watching my (brand new) copy of Interstellar the other day, and towards the end, the movie slowed way down and pixelated... kind of like a bad stream.
Yesterday, I had the Man Of Steel 4k in (watched it once before w no issues), and the movie froze on me. Nothing would work to unfreeze it, and I had to unplug it to reset it.
I have the Sony X800 4k player... Is it the movies or the player?

Thanks for any help!

Edit: I've watches a few other 4k movies w no issues on this player.

I've heard of several people complaining about freezes on movies from the Nolan set. If you have the Sony connected to the Internet try to disconnect it some peoplereport the Internet causes them problems with movies. I would not worry about being the player unless you are having that issue regularly. In this case I would first blame the disc but try the internet thing.

The player is only 2 weeks old, and Its not connect to the internet... does this happen to the 4k discs here and there?

100GB discs are more prone to this freezing. Make sure that the disc is as spotless as can be before playing it.

There is also the issue of the firmware, the last one a few months ago I think ends in 178. Try updating, if that doesn't get it working then I would ask for the disc to be exchanged for another.

If these are 100 gb discs, trying washing/ cleaning your discs before returning them. There are folks reporting residues that come off, and then their discs play.

CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN...

NOTE: 100 gb have 3 rings in the inner circle on the data side of the disc.
66 gb 4K discs will just have 2 rings on the data side.

And FYI, regular BD discs with 2 rings will be 50 gb.

I've also heard of some complaints of the UHD for Unforgiven skipping and freezing as well. Not sure about any other studios having these issues but this sounds like a Warner issue.

EDIT: Nevermind. I also heard Lionsgate's UHD for John Wick 2 has freezing issues as well

The problem with that is that it might improve the playing but if it doesn't and you have marked or damaged the disc in any way, the store may give you trouble to exchange it.

Tons of people are complaining about the Sony X800 freezing. I read posts here, other forums, Amazon, they are everywhere. I was going to buy one but decided to pass because of this.

And I have no trouble at all with mine , updated the firmware and I wash each disk right out of the box

FWIW, I have the Oppo-203 and it's played everything I put in it.
But if there's a problem (other than the random handshake issue 3-4 times in one year) disc cleaning will be my second step to try.

Me too, after the "Westworld Incident". I had some freezing on discs 1 and 2, I cleaned disc 3 with ammonia which left it spotless (but the microfiber cloth I used very dirty with a dark grey residue) and had no freezing on this disc. I then cleaned discs 1 and 2 and left them play while doing other things and no freezing.

My OPPO has been extremely picky with 100GB discs so far, I clean them mofos up real good before playing them.

I washed my copy of Batman Begins with a rag and dish soap and now it is perfect. I'm going to do the same to Blade Runner.

I don't understand why these discs need to be cleaned. Were they not clean before hand?

Unfortunately no. WB has really poor quality control with their 4K discs. I've read complaints going all the way back to Wonder Woman and Blade Runner Final Cut.

Indeed, but 3 layer 100 Gig discs from Sony Pictures are spotless, like CE3K. I watched the 3 cuts on this disc, which is a 3 layer 100 Gig disc, that could be more prone to freezing because of the use of seemless branching, but no freezing on my Sony X-800 the 3 times I watched the movie.

This is yet another reason for consumers to approach UHD carefully. It's inexcusable to have to worry about freezing discs (whether player or disc issues) and cleaning with ammonia out of the case when we've had blu-rays without these issues for 10 years and DVD for over a decade before that. I've never had to clean a blu-ray with ammonia out of the case to get it to play without issues.

I'd be worried about what ammonia or other harsh cleaners are doing to the coating or surface of the disc.
