Default Sanyo Projector demo awesome

went to a friends house last night and checked out his sanyo 1080p projector he picked up last week. he does not have a blu ray player yet, so i brought my panny over and did some demo blu movies. overall i was really impressed with the projector and it has made me consider getting one down the road. he did not have a good screen yet as he is just using a plain white board from home depot up on a wall for now and it has not been calibrated yet.

but man did it look awesome with spidey 3 in it, it was the best PQ out of about 10 movies we tried. of coarse as the day turned to night time we really saw the awesomeness of blu movies on it.

my home theater room is in my finsihed basement and there is no sunlight at all down there, so i am thinking down the road with going projector. i will make my own screen on the wall with that special paint and make my own black felt border. someday

It's one of the cheaper 1080p alternatives. Just know that it doesn't do 1080p24.

thats ok as i was very impressed without it. remember the PJ was not calibrated yet and he did not have his permenant screen yet, and even still it was awesome. it really makes me think of doing one in my finished basement HT room now. my room is 17X12 and it perfect size for maybe say a 80-90" screen.

I was thinking about getting this projector but I'm afraid of it being dim coming from a plasma display. Any input?

It does do 24fps.. at 24hz and there's a definitive difference between 60i and 24hz on the same material

Projectors are always dimmer than display.... look at how it look at Theater it never blast you're face with light. Personally i found this obstrusive and eye strained.

I have this projector and am happy with it...I have it in a 100% light controlled room. Your room is going to be the biggest factor on whether this will be bright enough...

Here is an image from mine, half bulb intensity, 17ft screen...

If you want a full resolution pic, let me know....

Great screen shot! Have any more?

17ft screen? Does that make up a 204" screen? That can't be right, can it? I thought 110" was the max screen size due to it's brightness? Looks pretty bright for over an 110" screen! Does 1080p/24 really make much of a real world difference?

Sorry, I'm a bit of a front projection noob. How will my room factor in? Room color? My room is mostly whites and tans. I have full lighting control and can make things pitch black anytime I like.

On, and will this work with my short ceiling? My basement has a short drop ceiling of 6' 5" in height. Is this just a DLP problem or does ceiling height effect LCDs as well? I remember reading you have to mount DLP projectors above, below or dead on with DLP. I can't go much above, only a couple inches tops.. I plan on running a 92" electric drop screen. The screen will be as close to my ceiling as possible due to screen size, height restraints and to avoid covering my center speaker. Do these LCD projectors have motion blurryness that flat planel LCDs have?

Also, what color and screen gain should I go for?

I'm not limited in depth, but is it possible to mount the Z2000 at 9ft from the screen? If so, will this in increase the brightness? I'm thinking with close mounting, plus using a 92" would = a pretty bright screen.

I know I have a lot of questions. Any answers would be very much appreciated! This is a lot of money for me to spend!

Default thanks

I was thinking of painting my walls a dark tan (light brown) or burnt orange but black walls is a no go at the moment. I have a bunch of dark accents, black curtains and such.

My Z2000 is about 10" from a 92" screen and looks just fine. You can shift the image vertically quite a way so it should be possible to mount the projector pretty much whereever you want (I have mine on a shelf about a foot above our heads, and it's surprisingly quiet even at that close distance). And yes, it handles 1080/24P.

Sorry my bad, I can't divide properly . The screen is 177" so about 15ft.

The number of windows and the room colour. My HT does not have any windows, the walls are dark brown and the ceiling is black. So I can really make it pitch black in there. That pic is with the bulb on half intensity.

My projector is mounted at the lowest point of the ceiling because that's just the way it worked out for my room layout - it's about 7' high at this point. I will post up some pics for you, but it won't be a problem for you unless you are standing while watching the movie...

I am throwing the image right on the wall. I went for white and used a special screen paint...can't remember the name - I have some left over, I think I kept it and will check and post it up for you.

I don't see why not, it will just make you max screen size smaller.

No problem - just give me a few days as I won't be online much this weekend.

No, the closer you put a projector , the more zoom you need, the less light you get. Anything between 1.0x and 1.5x is 'ok' from a 2.0x Zoom. In my situation i'am at 10' and i need to use 1.85x to get my 92' screen, so i bought a 2.8xGain screen to compensate for the loss of light due to the zoom

The best you can do is put it around 13-17 feet, if you can

For room Color, the Ceiling must be Dark, Black if you can as surrounding wall dark too (black if you are Hardcore, but there's other color you can choose from that as dark). Buy Matte Paint... Because if you're room is Light (white), the light will bounce off everything and it will hurt the actual perception of Contrast Ratio of this room.

You can put LCD Projectors almost anywhere in the room because of H and V shift, my last house had a 7' ceiling and it worked great. The Z2000 is extremely quiet in Ceiling Mode..

As for Motion Blurring i don't know, i'am not sensible to it... But i think the fact that theirs not actual Liquid in the screen ifself reduce it.. but i'am not a pro. I just know that i'am very sensible to DLP Rainbow, even Dual Wheel and fastest one so that technology is out of question for me..

greetings,
Actually the closer the projector to the screen the brighter it is but you loose contrast. The furthewr back the more contrast but with less brightness. Thats why most reviewers recommend the middle of the throw distance of the zoom to get a balance of both.

I was looking at the general specs sheet at Projector Central. Apparently the spec sheet is incomplete so I sit corrected.
