Default A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)

Quote:
Paramount Pictures is broadening its A Quiet Place franchise. The studio has set Jeff Nichols to write and direct the third film, which is based on an original idea by John Kraskinski. Studio has set a 2022 release date. Krasinski co-wrote and directed the original, and wrote and directed the sequel, which was pushed from its March 20 release date by the COVID lockdown, with Paramount slating for an April 23, 2021 release.

They are keeping the details of the plot under wraps, but I would not be surprised if this was not a straight sequel, but rather broadened the world that the original introduced, plopping viewers in a post-apocalyptic world where survivors are struggling to stay alive by being quiet, as monsters with ultra sensitive hearing hunt them. The movie progressed so quickly you barely had time to ask how the world got that way, and whether the creatures might be defeated. So there’s plenty of room creatively to stretch this out. [+]

Oooh, Jeff Nichols has been quiet for a couple years. This does sound like his wheelhouse, but it also makes me wonder if there’s really much to do with this world that the first film (and I suppose number 2) will have already covered.

I guess it could follow the initial event, but the doesn’t really seem like Nichols style.

Is he still doing Yankee Comandante?

I wish his remake of Alien Nation was still a thing.

I really like Jeff Nichols' films for the most part (MIDNIGHT SPECIAL I think was the weakest. A good concept that I believe they over-explained. I don't believe the audience ever really needed to know the boy's origin.) Saying that, I'm not so interested in him doing this (or in a third QUIET PLACE in general). I was much more interested when Fox was giving him ALIEN NATION before that project stalled around the time of the Disney merger.

The Cloverfield franchise died so the Quiet Place franchise could live!

To be fair, it did get some reaction tweets praising it highly just before it was yanked of the schedule, those people have no idea how lucky they were going to get it.

Well.. I'm glad he's doing something, but was hoping for him to do so his own thing as opposed to 3rd film in a franchise where the 2nd film ain't really widely out yet anyway. :')

If they don't start releasing their big-ticket movies by early 2021, there won't be any theaters left to show them in.

At this point they're just going to keep announcing stuff and shooting movies and holding on to them until they all go bankrupt. #maybenextyear

Take Shelter is one of the most underrated movies ever. Incredible movie and if he brings Shannon along with him for this it will turn into a must see for me.

Default Untitled A Quiet Place Movie (March 31st, 2023, not a threequel)

Paramount has just put an untitled A Quiet Place movie on the calendar for March 31, 2023. This is the one that Jeff Nichols is writing and directing which Deadline first told you about. It’s not a threequel. It’s based on an idea from John Krasinski.

A Quiet Place Part II, which opened over the Memorial Day weekend box office, roared the domestic box office back to life from the pandemic with a $57M 4-day opening. The pic posted a first week of $69.1M stateside, which is 3% ahead of the first A Quiet Place at the same point in time.

Not against it but I'd rather see Krasinski return to direct to finish a trilogy. But this obviously seems more of a spinoff or different direction so maybe we will still get another from Krasinski.
