Default Question on making Blu-ray DVDs (quality)

I have question on how good the quality would be if I made a Blu-ray DVD of some old wrestling AVIs I have on my comp.
The quality is alright when I burn it onto a regular DVD, not the greatest or clearest, but watchable. Would burning it onto a Blu-ray make that much of an improvement inthe quality?
Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I'm not familiar with Blu-ray as I have heard from friends the quality is great and am debating on getting a player and burner now.
I was going to go get an HD DVD burner but since Blu-ray has one I am not going to anymore.
