Anybody watch this? I'm not convinced yet after the first 2 episodes. I didn't expect another Silo, but I also didn't expect this to look as low-budget as it does. I can tolerate this if the story and characters are good, but it hasn't really captivated me so far.

Given how inexpensive MGM+ is (and the first week is free when subscribing to the Apple TV channel) I'll probably stick around for a few more episodes, hoping it's going somewhere.

I went in not knowing it was by the Silo author, so I didn't have any expectations - the reason I sought the show out was Lena Heady, of course, as she is one of my favorite actors.

I liked it quite a bit - it didn't bowl me over like Silo did where I need to rush out and tell everyone to watch it - but I enjoyed it enough to absolutely keep watching. I was a little surprised in the second episode that the storyline for that episode was as...resolved as it was (I expected it to get stretched out) - apparently, that sort of thing is going to happen a lot with different characters coming and going.

What makes me feel even better about it is a) the critics have seen up to episode 8, and say the quality continues to go up, and b) apparently Season 2 has already been filmed, so no worries about this being a one-season job that never gets resolved or we have to wait two years to see.

It's definitely enjoyable, and it's very nice to have something new and fresh, besides the fact that Lena Heady is just awesome in anything she is in.

I thought it was dreadful....a lighthouse in space ??
What the hell for ?? That's not how space works.

The Silo author should stick to holes in the ground...that was pretty good.
Lena H's collagen lips look like hell too.

I have only read the first short story years ago, but the beacons aren't really lighthouses. They emit "gravity waves" as warning signs to help ships traveling faster than light avoid dangerous areas, such as the asteroid field near beason 23. If you accept that FTL travel is possible, it kind of makes sense, since you'd obviously not be able to see obstacles visually or by radar before it's too late. The rotating light beam effect is just a silly invention of the TV show.

Still doesn't make sense....you would need a lighthouse every lightyear. I think in this episode, they ran into Dark Matter, not asteroids.
You have all of the universe to just go around something you might run into.

Asteroid fields aren't like they are shown in the movies also...they are spread out.
If any ship built cant detect obstacles, it has no business flying....how many ships did they lose mapping all the obstacles ??
Writer needs to stick to holes in the ground.

Why? Following the internal logic, you'd only need them where there are major obstacles near the flight corridors. Of course the whole concept of FTL is dubious, but that would affect 90% of all space sci-fi shows.

If you know exactly where it is relative to your position. I assume if you could travel FTL it would not be so easy to precisely keep track of where you are, given that you would pass through an entire asteroid field in fractions of a second, and light or other electromagnetic waves would behave weird. Actual lighthouses were built because navigation accuracy at sea was limited before there was GPS ...

Depends. If they were e.g. created by a "recent" (by cosmic standards) planetary collision they could be quite dense, I imagine.

Well they can, using an infrastructure of strategically placed beacons that emit "gravity waves".

You must know the author personally to try to make sense of his ineptitude...flight corridors in space ? Where the hell did you come up with that one ? You do know space is really big, right ?

The premise of this show is what a second grader would come up with when asked to make an outer space show.

I'm shocked... SHOCKED that isolar found another show to hate on. He's normally so level headed and easy going.

To be honest, the first episode wasn't that great but I enjoyed the second episode much more. I normally tend to see the cheapness or bad design but I didn't think this was too bad all things considered.

My main concern is if the whole series is set on the beacon it might become stale given we already had an 'invasion' in the second episode. I can't help thinking we'll get an episode where the A.I goes bad but at the moment I'm happy enough to keep watching.

Next we will find out there is no oxygen in space and things cannot explode.

My understanding from no-spoiler reviews of the rest of the season (well, up until episode 8) is that a lot of folks are going to come and go throughout the episodes. I like that - it wasn't what I was expecting, apparently it's not as much of a "slow burn" series as it seemed to be at the outset (and I think episode 2 really showed that -
[Show spoiler]I really didn't expect all those people to get killed off so quickly, LOL

Has anybody bought the Dazzler disc set for season 1. If so can you check to see if it has subtitles. I see from Zavvi's site that season 2 is supposed to have them, but the info on here suggests that season 1 doesn't include them.

Being a Dazzler release (bare bones all the way) and being Zavvi (get so much info wrong) either could be correct.

So looking to confirm from someone who owns the set.
