it seems they have run out of space on the blu-ray. If we are already running out of space on blu-ray, how is the 360 going to survive the next 2 years. The 360 can't even fit a full sports game on its system now. |

This is dealing with the issue that the game cannot hold more than 1 audio track, because of size limitations. This has nothing to do with seek times. This is just pure raw size that blu-ray is already not big enough for. |

The writeup only speculates it's a space issue, nothing else. Is it the real reason? Maybe, maybe not.

Anway - shocked to hear that a blu-ray isn't large enough for MGS4, although that game does seem massive. |

okay, maybe im confused here, but wouldn't redundent textures eat up less space. After all, you just have 1 texture taking up space that you tell the system to repeat X amount of times. With the 360, all the textures have to be different, which would seem to take up more space.

redundant textures means the same texture is on the disk in different places so it can be easily reached. The seek times on dvd is faster so it can have the texture on the disc once and seek to that spot each time. But on bluray they repeat the texture to lower the seek time.
All in all, it's not much. bluray still holds an ASSSload more. |

I apologize if I misinterpretted what the original person was saying. And I'll add that I do feel the Xbox is hurting by not having a Blu or HD-DVD drive. Not quite as much as they are hurting as not having a Hard Drive in every unit though. I expect both to be in the NextBox |

Its quite simple really - the audio and the textures share the same disc - you can fit one hell of a lot of audio on a blu-ray disc on its own, but when the disc is already chock-full of additional texture files, you don't have room for much else.... http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/01/..._double_to.php "Howard notes: "Drive speed matters more to me [than capacity], and Blu-ray is slower", with EGM revealing that "the PS3 Oblivion team compensated for the slower drive by duplicating data across the Blu-ray disc, making it faster to find and load." That is just stupid though. The ps3 has a harddrive so you can put the textures that repeat on the drive and fill the bluray to the max(AWESOME TO THE MAX). Imagine a 50gb full disc with partial harddrive install.
It would prolly take 10 dvds to put this on xbox. Why 10? You would have to put repeat textures, soundfiles, etc. on each dvd as you can't require harddrive installation on the xbox. |

I heard a story from quite a long time ago, that when blu-ray came out it was only 25GB and 50GB was rumored to come out, Kojima came to Sony and said, when are the 50GB discs going to be out, because I need more than 25GB for MGS. Sony said that they would be coming out soon and Kojima was happy, then about 4 months later 100GB discs were rumored and Kojima came back to Sony and said, when are the 100GB discs coming out I need more than 50GB for this game. Don't know how true it is, but thats what I heard and now it seems like it could've been a factual story. |

Redudant textures or not, DVD's 9.7gigs(duallayer) of data is not enough for big games. look at MLB the show, they have to take out stuff on the 360 version cause dvd is to small. and thats a baseball game. bottom line 360 cant handle MGS4, if they were to port it over it will be a compleatly defferent game.

With the current offerings from other game publishers (Call of Duty 4, Halo 3) they are creating awesome games that last about 8-10 hours. With MGS4 on a BD-50, they will be able to make a game as good or better looking than Call of Duty 4 except lasting much, much longer. And the value of the game would be so much higher because of it.
