Default Do you think the writer of the article has an HD-DVD Player?

Sounds a bit biased.

It's another weak article trying to apply subtle spin after the fact. You can't take anything MSNBC says as truth anyway... they've been very biased all along due to their direct affiliation with Universal.

I liked this line:

Quote:
But the real death knell for HD DVD was the last month's decision by Warner Bros. Entertainment to drop the format and release only Blu-ray discs and DVDs.
He says it as if the WB decision dropped from the sky and wasn't based on slaes trends or data. Like the battle was even until this magical random act of God.

Maybe, he can't accept the fact Blu has won.

He's right about Comcast, but aren't those movies 1080i quality? They also cost $6 per download, so I rather get my movie from Blockbuster on Blu in that case.

Default More download whining

- Storage

- Bandwidth

- Getting throttled even if you DO get it someday.

- Playing it where you want.

- Paying for the pipe.

- Retailers LIKE physical media. It sells....and people that sell DL content sell other things or have partners that do. If they want to sell that stuff, they need these retails that also LOVE physical media.

God, call me in a decade...or two.

"Ready to buy Blu-ray? Better hit pause button" by Suzanne Choney of MSNBC
It's 'news' with an agenda - 'Slow down the adoption of HiDef media.'
Most readers agree, the article has a bad rating. Seriously I don't know how journalists like that can sleep at night, selling themselves for the company line.

why don't journalists have the courage to say that downloadable HD movies are nearer to DVD quality than Blu-ray quality? what's the risk for them?

it's like the game sites reviewers, soon the PS3 will dominate the X360 in sales, and by magic the "PS3 epic phail" reviews will stop ...

Yep, sounds like it. I shot off a letter to MSNBC about it both regular and email. Yeah, I know, I'm a born optimist.

Dear Editor,

Thank you for taking the time to peruse these comments.

I am a long time reader of MSNBC and appreciate its breadth and carity of content.

I have noticed a tendency for technical articles on MSNBC to be biased in favor of Microsoft strategic directions. This is mostly evident in the selection and range of articles published, but in a few instances articles written by MSNBC staff are very biased.

A noticable example is "Ready to buy Blu-ray? Better hit pause button" by
Suzanne Choney published yesterday.

It contains a few errors of fact, such as its portrayal that early Blu-ray players will be completely obsolete. (This is simply not true and upgrades will not be needed or desired by their owners.) But more importantly the general theme is a discreditation of high definition media in order to promote the downloading business without any reference to any of high definition media's plusses.

What happens to a downloaded library when your hard drive crashes? is an important consideration.

The article is closely in line with Microsoft's strategic direction in the download business, of course, but please add balance and journalistic integrity by expanding articles past Microsoft's corporate line.

Sincerely,

Somedays they have good articles on MSNBC about all this and other days, like today, they write crap.

Sour Grapes for sure.

Blu is taking off. Even here in small town Nova Scotia Canada where it has been all over the news and local papers. Lots of interest here!

I love this quote.

“One of the differences between HD DVD and Blu-ray is that the HD platform was complete when it went to market, because you could connect it to the Internet for updates, patches or security fixes,”

Yeah, nothing says complete like having to download patches.

The entire concept of "complete" is a fallacy anyway. A "complete" strategy would have considered content as well, not to mention diversity of h/w developers. The only they got complete was the specs but the overall strategy and go-to-market plan was garbage. That's far from "complete".
