Wow, what an assclown. After saying DVD isn't dead, he talks about how Blu discs are bad for the environment. Well, if true, so are the DVD's. Heck, DVD packaging is even larger than Blu packaging.
What a maroon. |

I look at articles like this in a positive light. After all the flag waving over HD DVD winning, the HD DVD zealots are reduced to articles like this.
Seriously, in September most of us were concerned about the Paramount switch and thought HD DVD wasn't going to die for at least another year. Look forward to thousands of Red Ants blogging their way through the 10 steps of grieving. Just be there to catch their tears. There's enough to fill an ocean. |

"Think of all the fuel used to ship the Blu-ray discs around. That fuel has to come from somewhere and no doubt some of it is probably from countries in the Middle East with a history of terrorism.
Perhaps instead of Blu-ray they should call Sony's format "Death Ray" for what it does to the environment, and since it depends so much on Middle Eastern oil to create, house and ship the discs around the planet? Yep, terrorism and pollution, those are certainly two things that I want to be funding with my entertainment purchases...not! One has to wonder...have any of the people buying these Death Ray discs actually stopped to think of the consequences of their actions? Or perhaps they're simply selfish people that just don't give a damn about the true costs to the planet and to human life of their Death Ray discs? It's hard to get into the heads of people like this who want entertainment at all costs and who will stop at nothing to get it. I have no doubt that the PS3 fanboys are at the heart of the Death Ray conspiracy to destroy the planet and support terrorist regimes, it's right up their alley." Surely its a joke artice. No one seriously believe that crap he wrote. ![]() |

Here's the response I tried to post there, we'll see if it gets past the moderation:
Why would PS3 owners 'wail in agony' if downloads take over - given that Sony will also be selling them? It seems like PS3 owners are positioned perfectly for the future of HD media, to take best advantage of either Blu-Ray or downloads. Doesn't hurt that the systems have been very reliable, quiet, and every unit comes with a hard drive. But the truth is, the future is a mixture of Blu-Ray and downloads. I download a lot of shows from iTunes today myself and am a strong early adoptor of downloads, but even if in theory you get to "keep" the shows I really consider them more rentals - shows I really like, I'll buy on Blu-Ray to not only watch again but enjoy the extras. Then I can also loan them to friends. Movie rentals? Rather than blow out my ISP bandwidth cap on a lot of substandard and overcompressed HD transfers, I'll wait the extra day for a Netflix Blu-Ray disc thanks (and again I get extras with that, something you do not get with downloads). Downloads are much better suited to TV. HD-DVD fanatics have latched on to trying to spread the meme that downloads will destroy Blu-Ray, but it never made any sense. In no way are downloads ready to do so, given infrastructure and technical limitations of downloaded video. When video producers wake to the same realization music companies have and drop DRM - then perhaps, you might have the start of possibly of making inroads on physical media. Where were all the people claiming downloads were going to take over at the HD-DVD launch, eh? It's a shame to see that someone responsible for content on this site is capable of such blindness in regards to technology and direction, it sure makes me a lot more dubious about other content posted here [meaning ExtremeTech]. |

At least it was admitted that the PS3 was one of the reasons why blu-ray had as big of a following as it did. I grew tired of all the Toshiba rantings of how PS3 owners did not watch blu-ray movies.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Nevertheless, still a worthless article. I think anyone who publishes anything in reference to fanboy hype has zero credibility. Fanboys will be fanboys regardless of what it is they're being a fanboy for. |

![]() ![]() This guy is really funny.
